On February 23, 2018, Universal Pictures will launch Jaegers into battle in Steven S. DeKnight‘s Pacific Rim 2, which will star John Boyega, who made a name for himself starring in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Attack the Block.
As previously reported, Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film.
In the 2013 film that was directed by Guillermo del Toro (read our review), as a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.

Derek Connolly, who penned Pacific Rim 2, is currently working on a script for Jurassic World 2 and wrote the script for the upcoming adventure thriller Kong: Skull Island.
There were originally rumors of Pacific Rim becoming part of the King Kong and Godzilla universe, although that’s looking unlikely at this moment.
