Sup, WOD Watchers?
We welcome you back on this macabre Monday to another double dose of terror. For many, this is the start of the first full week back to work after the holidays, and it could be rough. Hopefully, we can help wake you up for the week like a cup of coffee on Elm Street! This next duo of releases really embodies that Monday feeling with its drab lack of color. We go back to classic black and white with two tales of futility.
Our first short comes to us from director Gav Chuckie Steel in the UK. This one is called Tinnitus and rightfully so. Our main character can’t stop the noises inside his head and will do anything to silence them. This is a character driven short that uses black and white to its advantage with high contrast and just a touch of color in places of the artist’s choosing. A somewhat crowded sound design will help support the title of this piece.
The second featurette, entitled Mercy, comes from director Sean Blau. This is an odd little creature feature about a group of friends who stumble across an unknown organism washed up on the beach. After encountering the strange creature, they begin to undergo… changes. What this lacks in performance, it makes up for with some pretty creative and cringe-worthy practical effects. It may take a couple watches to fully appreciate this one, but you won’t be disappointed.
Anyway, talk is cheap… just watch the damn movies.
