‘The Predator’ is Hunting in the Suburban Moonlight

Trevante Rhodes, one of the stars of A24’s Moonlight, has joined the cast of Shane Black’s The Predator, what THR is calling “20th Century Fox’s reboot of the alien action movie series.”

Get this: Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story sees the popular stalker alien, first seen in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger pic titled simply Predator, in an environment that audiences have not seen: the suburbs. Yes, the suburbs. But I refuse to question Black, who has yet to fail us as film fans.

Rhodes joins Boyd Holbrook, who is leading an ensemble that also includes Olivia Munn.

Rhodes will play the best friend of Holbrook’s character; both are said to be ex-Marines.

Black is directing the project and wrote the script with Fred Dekker.

A shooting start later this winter is being planned.

The suburbs…could lend some cool stuff but overall seems like a lackluster environment imo. The jungle was an awesome setting, and Los Angeles was a cool scenario as well. I guess I just have trouble thinking of the predator hanging out in people’s homes waiting to slaughter some housewives.

Will this be related at all to other Predator movies?

Also, the burbs seem like a tough place to make the Predator appear as the fierce hunter that it is.

HA! I just knew there was gonna be pimp teef in this movie.

Shane Black debunked the suburb rumors a while back.

It’s true, it was reported on November 5th by a dozen other sites that Shan Black had debunked the Suburbia setting. Shane Black’s exact statement was that the movie was “Not about the suburbs” Which this website could take to not be specifically dismissing the setting all together, instead just assuring those concerned that it’s not a remake of American Beauty with a Predator thrown in to the mix. Possibly playing the role made popular by Kevin Spacey.

However, I believe, or possibly want to believe that it does not take place in the suburbs. Because that would be dumb.

        That’s what I thought…
        Lol
        American Predator

The Predator is a hunter which is why it was attracted to the rainforest in Predator and then the concrete jungle in Predator 2. I refuse to believe that they would be dumb enough to set a Predator movie in the suburbs. They would be far better setting it in a middle-eastern type country or the antarctic like the way AvP begins – but a whole movie of that.

Hell yeah, A Predator hunting in the war torn middle east would be awesome. A group of navy seal goes in to take out a Terrorist leader and ends up being hunted by The Predator. Both side, The Navy Seal and ISIS ends up getting picked off one by one by The Predator. Hell, there’s a movie right there.

        Exactly, it makes perfect sense.

Black hasn’t failed film fans? Hmm iron man 3.

    • Shawn Simpson

Anyone who praises Iron Man 3 is an asshole. That film deserves to be put in the same shit hole reserved for ET the video game.

  • CrackTheSkye1990

Not sure how The Predator would work in the suburbs or a city for that matter.

    • SKILZS2000

Predator 2 was in the city

There is this superb fan-made movie about the Predator hunting during the WWII (look for one at Youtube). American troops advance onto the Japanese positions but at the same time Predator hunts both parties. In the end of the movie (which is like 15 mins long) a GI with his Tommy gun stands alongside with his enemy – an unknown Jap officer weilding his sharp katana against common enemy.
