‘Wishmaster’ Franchise Blu-ray Set Coming from Vestron Video; We’ve Got the Art!

Be careful what you wish for. Unless you wished for this. In which case, thank you.

I revisited Wishmaster earlier this year (and dubbed it “the original Expendables of horror” for a fun article I wrote here on Bloody Disgusting), and found that I was still able to have a blast with the 1997 franchise-starter. Granted, it may not exactly be a very good movie, but it’s creative, ambitious, and loaded with awesome practical effects. I just can’t help but love that movie.

Of course, Wishmaster was followed up with three sequels that took the franchise to the year 2002, and if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll be delighted to know that the entire saga is soon headed to Blu-ray, in one collection, for the first time. From Lionsgate’s new Vestron Video Collector’s Series label comes the four-film Wishmaster Collection, and we’ve got first details.

We tip our hats to VideoETA for informing us that the Wishmaster Blu-ray collection currently has a street date of March 28th, 2017. The limited collector’s edition release includes all four films and features brand new cover art from Tom “The Dude Designs” Hodge, which VideoETA’s senior editor John Couture was awesome enough to send over to us. You’ll find that below.

According to the official selling features, the set will be “packed with amazing special features,” but we have no further details at this time. The films have been “restored and remastered.”

Bless you, Lionsgate.

Where did you find that high-res art?! I was looking for it all afternoon! It’s dope.

    • John Squires

      MAGIC! 😉

  • Nicolas Caiveau

Great ! Still no news on a Wishmaster 5 ?

    • Saturn

I’ve always fancied a Warlock Vs Wishmaster movie if I’m honest.
But of course, it would need Julian Sands and Andrew Divoff returning – and Richard E. Grant would be a nice addition to the cast too.
It really wouldn’t be too difficult to do either – it could be the Warlock’s mission to find a gemstone that would complete a glove that could wipe out humanity (hmmmm) – scrub the glove thing, that’s silly – but perhaps the mission is for the Warlock to find a certain gem/lamp which houses the strongest of the Djinn – Iblis (the Islamic Satan),but he has competition from the Wishmaster as he doesn’t want his Master released, as he intends to control the Djinn himself – , as he once led a rebellion against Iblis himself, and was cast out for all eternity – this is why he’s been trying to release his brothers – to rule over them, and us.
Perhaps the Warlock has been summoned by a re-incarnated Giles Redferne, as he himself would be powerless against an army of the Djinn if they were to be evoked.

      • You always have the most fun/crazy ideas.

It’s all that LSD I took in the 1960’s.
Although I wasn’t born until 1974 – those were the days!

      • Nicolas Caiveau

        I like your pitch 🙂

  • The only way to sell 2-4 is to package them with the original.

    • Jimmy Cthulhuhan

Eh, 2 was the best… the only good one imo.

      • Weresmurf

        You mean 1…

        • Jimmy Cthulhuhan

          Good catch

  • Geno1987

The third and fourth were terrible without Andrew Divoff.

    • OmarComin’

I think a lot of the menace went with the second movie. He was scary and funny in the first. In the second he was just mugging.

  • Bouncy X

somewhere, whatshisname who played the role in 3 and 4 is crying he isn’t represented on the cover!

  • TheHorrorNerd

    Oh man… Finally…

  • Dave Brown

I could live without the third or fourth(really the second too, but Divoff is fun and it has ‘moments’), but Vestron’s prices are pretty good, so I’ll pick this up and give the sequels another shot. Why not? I have the collector’s disease.

  • I have a soft spot for the first two. When I saw the original in theaters, it was the closest to seeing something like Friday or Nightmare on the big screen at the time. I thought I was witnessing birth of the next Freddy…I wasn’t, but they’re still fun flicks. I wonder if this means Vestron has a Lep collection waiting in the wings?

    • Justin McGill

Unless you’re just in for the extras there already a 7 film BD set for Leprechaun.

      • Yeah, I’m an extras whore so…

        • Justin McGill

Nothing wrong with it.. but would prefer a Warlock set first before we start re releasing. Lol

          • Damn. Warlock does need a release too. So many releases, so little money.

          • zombie84_41

Warlock, oh warlock that’s a fuckin film right there.

  • The Drucifer

They’re also releasing THE GATE! Fucking pumped. Fuck Wishmaster, Pete Atkins is the only one excited for this.

  • Adam Clifton

‘I take it this is something you wish to see?’

  • Khy

Too bad Wishermaster 3 and 4 are crap. Now this is one series that needs a solid reboot.

Wishmaster 4 was actually nice. only part 3 was total crap and of course the first 2 films were the best. I hope they reboot it soon.

    • zombie84_41

I agree I wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of this.

  • Cure4Humanity

I may have to buy this.

  • sliceanddice

love 1 and 2. I recall an interview with peter atkins who wrote wishmaster 1 and hellraiser 2 etc… when the journalist asked him how he felt about the bad hellraiser sequels. he said, “wishmaster. have you seen THOSE sequels?”
    says it all really/

  • zombie84_41

AWESOME phantasm now this. Life is beautiful my friends, life is beautiful.

  • wrestling fan 36

Nice….. But i am wondering why no more sequels? This franchise should still be going

  • OmarComin’

The first movie was brilliant. Begins well, ends well, good pacing, good special effects, cameos galore, balanced mix of black comedy and horror, good acting from Andrew Divoff in the lead role and shades of Linda Hamilton in the heroine.

    What’s not to like?

    The sequel was atrocious though.
