Jeff Goldblum is Returning as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel!

Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Jurassic Park is one of the greatest films of all time for a number of reasons. One of which is Dr. Ian Malcolm, the coolest dude to ever survive a dinosaur attack. Jeff Goldblum portrayed the character, a know-it-all mathematician who came to Jurassic Park as an insurance consultant. When he wasn’t wooing Ellie (Laura Dern) with his knowledge bombs, he was dropping some of the film’s most memorable lines, including, “Life finds a way.” Malcolm survived both trips to Jurassic Park and it looks like he’s being brought back for one last hurrah.

THR breaks the huge news this Tuesday evening that Goldblum will be starring in Jurassic World 2, the follow-up to the park’s reopening that was canon with the original trilogy. While the site doesn’t specify if he’s reprising his role, it would be strange if he weren’t considering how these are direct sequels that take place in the same universe as the initial trilogy. Man, can you imagine if they work Sam Neill into the film as well?!

J. A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) is directing the next installment in the studio’s hit franchise. Jurassic World earned $1.67 billion worldwide in 2015 and is the fourth-highest-grossing film in history.

Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are returning for the sequel, which also stars Justice Smith, James Cromwell and Toby Jones. Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, wrote the script for the sequel with Derek Connolly.

Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again join executive producers Steven Spielberg and Trevorrow in the next chapter of the franchise. Belén Atienza is also producing. Vice president of production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of the studio.

Jeff Goldblum is a national treasure and we couldn’t be more excited!

Funny, I was just wondering what he was up to.

If you have anything negative to say about this it’s because you hate fun.

  • diapers

I’m totally cool with that. The GIF chest breathing thing is way to creepy though.

If by creepy you mean beautiful, then yes.

        • Munchie

Did you come up with that on your own?

          • Nope, your mum.

          • Munchie

Wow, a your mom joke. What’s next, that’s what she said? Your material is stellar.

  • Lee W Dalgleish

I very much approve of this news! I’m glad he’s back. Now if only Alan and Ellie could appear too. I’d like to ignore what they did to them in JP3. I don’t like to think they are no longer together. lol

  • Barry El Beardo

    Not necessary

  • Saw it coming a mile off, I’m down for it either way. Any nostalgia link to the first movie is good in my book, as long as they don’t screw it up.

Off topic but that has to be the single greatest editing job I’ve seen in a GIF ever

  • Wil McMullen

I wish they had found some way to bring Sam Neill back into the venture.

  • Darkknight2149

Great. Can we stop calling “Jurassic World” a reboot now? It irritates me how often that word is misused.

  • DSK

Awesome news!!! I’m even more hyped now for JW2

  • Mike Messina

    Awesome……..more chaos theory
