I still don’t get how this is a ‘remake.’

It seems like a completely different movie. Which is fine…I’m just not following the logic behind calling it a ‘remake.’

    • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

Translation: “our movie is going to be a derivative pile of shite, let’s at least try to trick a few people into seeing it by linking it to a much MUCH better film”

  • Tien Tran

“half-human, half-zombie” wtf meaning of this remake, is it too hard to make a full zombie movie?

  • We need a trailer.

    • J Jett

      EXACTLY, Fede!

      • You know, J, i hate when they keep on promoting movies and they won’t bother to realease a single trailer. Much like the promotion for Leatherface, we waited so much time waiting for that trailer.

        • J Jett

definitely. when a movie is promoted in every possible way (behind the scenes pix, interviews with cast, etc.) EXCEPT for an actual trailer it always seems suspicious to me. it feels like said movie’s makers want to wait until the last possible moment to release the trailer (not specifically referring to this movie) because they may think the movie is terrible and don’t want bad reaction/word of mouth (about what we see in the trailer) to be out there for months before the film’s release.

          • I think the same. I always think the producers don’t believe in the final product (which shows in the trailer) so they keep on releasing stuff about the movie to keep the people interested

    • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

You are assuming they can afford to make one

      • Well, that’s not a good starting point

    • Hunkulees

I’m guessing this movie will sell better without a trailer 😉

If you are selling a turd for lunch, it’s best not to give out free samples first

  • fannypack aficionado

It’s literally like producers line up to take a shit on an 8×10 of Romero.

    • Hunkulees

It’s kind of sad isn’t it? Romero gets screwed out of any profits on the original film that started the walking dead genre, then after his death these soulless ghouls try to feed off his very essence to make a quick buck

This isn’t a tribute, a tribute requires respect. This is a cheap ass soulless cash in

  • Mark

    sounds total shite

  • Creepshow

Most things direct to VOD = me no watchie

    • plutohiller

It really depends on the quality. I used to hate VOD or straight to dvd films. Now it seems like some good movies are going that way because distributors don’t want to spend the finances to release films theatrically that may not make them any money. If it isn’t superheros or adaptations of best selling novels, they don’t get theatrical treatment anymore.

  • Jay Bennett

So, Warm Bodies with a day of the dead sticker over it.

  • Necro

“Half human – half zombie”? WTF?!

    • Hunkulees

      But ALL generic

  • Dr. Carrion Crow

Can’t wait to not watch this.

    • Hunkulees

I’m going to marathon it and not watch it 3 times!

      • Dr. Carrion Crow

You could not watch a double feature of this and the other remake.

        • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

Oooooh, now there’s an idea! Nice thinking!

  • NixEclips

    OMG, Johnathon Schaech!!!

    • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

      Um….yeah

      • NixEclips

THE Johnathon Schaech!!! His name is legendary! Just ask Brad.

        • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

The man, the legend, the…guy that Brad Miska apparently owes a lot of money to

  • I’m not going to lie… I’m not enthusiastic about this movie at all. Everything we have been hearing, from super-human Bub to the cast only boasting about “blood and zombies” (without any acknowledgement of the original’s themes or the story), ETC, all seem to demonstrate that this movie is completely missing the point of the George A. Romero classic.

  • zombie84_41

The question here is will it be shitter than the Tara Reid one.

    • Ryan Jackson

      *Mena Suvari

    • J Jett

Tara Reid? did you mean Mena Suvari (the Steve Miner directed DAY OF THE DEAD)? 🙂

      • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

Aren’t they pretty much the same person?

        • J Jett

          LOL! 🙂

      • zombie84_41

Same shit LOL they both look and act the same haven’t been good since their American Pie years LOL.

    • That’s a tall task. That movie was wet garbage on fire.

      • zombie84_41

seriously lol but anything is possible these days.

  • C-3PO’s

Does anyone actually like these kinds of movies? Warm Bodies, Fido, etc.

    • Otterlee

Warm Bodies was only good for one watch. I love Fido though.

    • J Jett

i love WARM BODIES. i’ve never seen FIDO. for me it just depends on my mood. sometimes i’m in the mood for fun/cheesy/non-serious/etc. type of horror movies and other times i want quality/well made/well written/etc. horror movies.

      • fannypack aficionado

Fido is pretty good. It’s basically a Lassie movie.

        • J Jett

i can’t believe i haven’t watched FIDO considering i love (for the most part) all things zombie. i’ll check it out!

    • Spartan-034

I love Fido, but I never gave Warm Bodies a chance, it looked so hackneyed and so forced to be a stupid “star-crossed lovers from opposing factions” kinda Romeo and Juliet deal.
This movie however… I will wait and see trailers before making any sort of claim to its quality, the description makes it sound very lame tho.

    • bd2999

Fido was fine. Warm Bodies was better than you would think it would be given the premise, but it was not great. It is better than this movie was likely to be though. Not sure that is saying much though.

Both movies blow away the Day remake and whatever you want to call DotD 2 contagion

    • Batcat

Fido was very well made and had more heart and brains(ha!) than most zombie films produced in the last twenty years. I’m not sure why that would be lumped in with the boring and derivative films that usually populate this subgenre.

Warm Bodies fits in the same category as something like Zombieland. It has interesting ideas but is mostly played for laughs and is fairly lighthearted. It’s not for everyone but enjoyable enough if in the right(wrong?) state of mind.

  • J Jett

why haven’t they released a trailer for this yet? i’m not sure what the protocol/norm is for how far in advance (of a movie’s release) they release a trailer for it. i’m completely open to this new DAY film (i’m keeping an open mind. maybe i’ll end up liking the movie) but i need to see a trailer to even begin to get interested in this or not.

  • runamonk

    is that Willam Dafoe?

  • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

Don’t forget, this is starring Johnathon Schaech!!! Who according to Bloody Disgusting’s numerous articles is apparently a HORROR LEGEND! Who knew?

Not only does he promise that he’s going to be “Bub on steroids!” but he also assures us that “I think with my body – I can tell you a story with my body”

In all seriousness, this is going to likely be a hot pile of suck, but after the last Day Of The Dead remake at least the bar is set extremely low

    • Bart Crowe

Is there any worse phrase “_____ but on steroids” when a director talks about their horror remake? People have done good remakes of George Romero films but this is not going to be one of them.

      • bd2999

I liked the 1990 Night remake but it had Romero involved. The Dawn remake was pretty good in general but was more a re-imagining with similar situations to the original.

I agree there have been good ones. Day was not. Other than a name steal there was no point either time.

        • Bart Crowe

I did like The Crazies remake but I don’t know if was because I’m a huge of Timothy Olyphant or it was genuinely good.

        • Hunkulees

Night Of The Living Dead 1990 was the shit. Better special effects (thanks to Savini), killer soundtrack, Barbara becoming a strong independent ass kicker instead of whimpering couch art, and most of all…Tony motherfucking Todd!

Unpopular opinion or not I liked the remake much better than the original

          • fishbonex

Absolutely agree, I love that remake and I also think it’s superior to the original. And I am a Romeroverse die-hard.

      • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

        Couldn’t agree more

  • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

I’m also seriously curious as to why Bloody Disgusting seems to be promoting this thing so hard.

From all appearances here is what this appears to bring to the table. Derivative remake of a film that’s already been remade fairly recently (poorly), direct to video, little known actors that only seem to have been in low budget schlock (Leatherface Death Race 4, seriously…wtf?), horrible concept (what the hell is a half zombie?), minimal effort cash in that is additionally poorly timed after the death of Romero to the point of almost being offensive, what’s the deal Bloody Disgusting? Why are you pushing this turd? Is someone here personally involved in making this thing? Or is Brad Miska a highschool buddy of Johnathon Schaech and owes him money?

  • Bart Crowe

This looks bad like 2008 Day of the Dead bad. Shame we never got a proper James Gunn written and Zack Snyder directed follow up to their surprisingly decent Dawn of the Dead remake.

  • 0Father0Satan0Sun

Another fucking pointless up-coming remake/reboot. Hollywood and nostalgic people are taking originality/creativity away in the recent years, which is sad. Millennials and generation z are as much to blame as well.

  • IWC-3PO

“Wait’ll they get a load of me”

  • REC03

you know a movie’s gonna be amazing when it has a subtitle such as Bloodline! Can’t wait for this!

  • Dvd Emg

Another loselly remake potraying severily insecure protagonist with evily ill antagonist?

    • Hunkulees

      Huh?

  • Christian

    Make Zombies Scary Again.

  • Mister B

Less a remake. More a terrible idea for a film using Romero’s classic film’s title to sell tickets.

  • Dennis Chenier

The reason nobody can make a good Day of the Dead remake is because the original is also overrated and not very good at all.

    • blackie_chan

lets apply some logic here. in YOUR minority opinion, the original is overrated and not good, then that means that ALL of the remakes should have been better, which they havnt, That says a lot about your opinion.

      • Dennis Chenier

The original can still be overrated, while the remakes also being worse. Where do you get the idea the remakes should be better, simply because the original is overrated? Not sure your logic. I didn’t say Day (85) was ALL bad. Just overrated and not very good. The remakes just happen to be shittier.

    • 1000

IF the original was “not very good” wouldn’t that make it EASIER to make a more effective remake ?

    • Tony PJ

I just rewatched the original Day recently and it is most certainly NOT overrated. The remake was crap because it came on the heels of the Dawn remake, was only made to ride that wave and it steered too far from the source material in an attempt to be trendy.

    • fishbonex

Yeah, thats’s a solid “no”. In fact, Day is probably vastly UNDERRATED.

  • Gary

Ummmmmm hell no! On all accounts!

  • That synopsis sounds NOTHING like Day of the Dead… It also makes no sense. How can you be HALF zombie?

    • Professor Fartsparkles

Renesme Cullen is half zombie on her mother’s side.

  • Batcat

This just sounds like a generic dumb slasher film that will be trying to be an “edgy psychological thriller.” It doesn’t have much promise.

It would have been nice to see a proper remake, even if I am hardly a champion of such things, that focused on the socio-political elements presented in the original film dealing with the military and scientists as opposing forces. It could have been structured perhaps more like the 1951 version of The Thing and focused on the stress between two very camps as they attempt to solve the same problem. With a good cast and an emphasis on characters it could have been an interesting film.

I also think that had a remake went more into the megalomania suggested by the Rhodes character in the original film. They could have made an interesting film out of that. That could have delved into that character’s psyche and presented how one is driven to such madness.

It’s a shame that thinking man’s zombie pictures are going by the wayside. Instead, we get nothing but shoot em-ups and action films, as if we haven’t had enough of them to last a few decades!

  • Brad Tyler

This looks and sounds absolute SHIT! Oh dear, another piss poor DOTD entry. The original is one of my all time favourite horrors.

  • Taylor ryder

Great another Remake that wants to put a spin on one of the greatest zombie movies of all time. Quit fucking up my zombie movies damnit. Tired as hell of these directors trying to put their shitty spin on classics like the original day of the dead when no one cares about their spin especially if it’s garbage like this. If you’re not going to do it right, then leave it the fuck alone. The best george a romero remakes are night of the living dead 1991 remake and dawn of the dead 2004 remake everything else is shit and this is gunna be shit.
