Mike Dougherty Teases Day 69 on the Set of ‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’

Mike Dougherty shot out an intriguing tweet the other day from the set of Godzilla: King of Monsters. I don’t really see it, but people are claiming it looks as if Godzilla is wearing some sort of armor in the below rendering? Do you see it?

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.”

“When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”

The incredible cast includes Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Aisha Hinds.

Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.

Warner Bros. has set a March 22, 2019 release date with Godzilla vs. Kong, which has been slated for release on May 22, 2020.

im so upset. I thought godzilla was real. And now I come to find out he is a cgi render 🙁

    • Christopher Nickerson

You got it wrong. He is real, they just use the chicken render when humans are on set so they don’t get squashed

      • zombie84_41

Oh sweet. I’m so happy now 🙂

  • Angus Macready

I also hate to be “tease”‘ed in a 69. Ya I went there, sorry could help myself. But this headline almost writes itself 😉

  • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

I was really hoping the “tease” would be Trick R’ Treat 2 info…sigh

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

Looks like they’ve already surpassed his screen time from the last movie.

DUDE! Best laugh I’ve had in a long time… and so true….

    • Jay Brezzy

      Take this damn up-vote!

  • Geoff Peterson

That is the exact colour scheme he has in the NES version of Godzilla.

The Retro Gaming nerd in me really wants a director’s cut where he just stays that way.

I wonder if this movie will also be an almost two hour, war drama…with something about monsters tossed in? Because that’s what we were all clamoring for a few years back, and boy did we get it. And as an extra added bonus, we got to see Godzilla get his chunky ass it kicked the entire movie by what looked like, bugs ( the little he was in it )…..Up until the last 10 minutes.

I just love when film studios know what I want better than I do.

    • Satanzilla

Because we are all ten year old boys and so what we want to see is the boss monster beating up other monsters for two hours, then credits. That’s why the movie didn’t make half a billion dollars at the box office. Right?

      • Jay Brezzy

Who would know the guy with a name like Satanzilla would take offense lol. Sorry, but when you dup us in with Brian Cranston and a bad ass trailer….But fill the movie with run time of 2hr and 3min…With literally 8MINUTES of Godzilla on screen total ( look it up so there’s no need to argue the fact )….Was like a gut punch.

The Mummy 2017 made over 400 million already. That film is an abomination. Don’t be a chart whore. Assuming you know 328 million of that half billion was international ( 62% ) so get off it.

” Boss monster “….maybe you are a ten year old boy. Right?

        • spidergod91

“That film is an abomination” Ridiculous exaggeration.

          • Jay Brezzy

Brendon Frasier’s Mummy films…..1-2 were far and away better adventure films IMO.

        • Evan3

Godzilla was so bad it literally resulted in me seeing far less movies in theaters. Everything you say is true. I don’t know that I’ve seen such a drastic difference in quality from the trailer (the skydiving one – easily one of the best all-time trailers) to film. I didn’t think anything could be worse than 1998 Godzilla and then…

          • Jay Brezzy

100% Evan. Damn that skydiving trailer.

That trailer had us all amped lol. Instead we seriously got Cranston killed off in the first 30mins, and a wartime drama with the movie’s actual draw ( Godzilla ), relegated to getting his ass kicked in snipits in the background lol.

I thought Rein Of Fire ( Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale ) was so much better.

          • Evan3

Oh fuck! I haven’t thought of the shitshow that is Reign of Fire in years. Your posts are bringing me so many terrible memories.

          • Jay Brezzy

Lol. Remember when Mathew McConaughey jumped into the dragon with his battle axe?? Lol

  • spidergod91

Love Trick R Treat a good deal but I really hope they keep the more serious tone 2014 had rather then the tone of Skull Island.

  • Evan3

The first Godzilla was a a monster-sized turd and Dougherty’s track record is only marginally better than Edwards’. Yes – of Course I love/own/watch Trick r Treat a lot. But that absolutely is the outlier in his career.

Also, jamming in an excess number of antagonists rarely bodes well (see: Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alien v. Predator, Batman v Superman, Iron Man 2).

I am incredibly skeptical of this film.
