‘Unfriended’ Sequel Was Also Filmed in Secret

Blumhouse originally acquired Levan (Leo) Gabriadze’s Cybernatural out of the Fantasia Film Festival in 2015. The techno-thriller was then released through Universal Pictures as Unfriended, pulling in 64M worldwide. It’s a tremendous success when you consider that it’s a single location micro-indie, told entirely from a young girl’s computer desktop, and cost next to nothing to make.

With that, Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned back in 2015 that an Unfriended sequel was already in the works with Nelson Greaves, who wrote the first film that was produced by Timur Bekmambetov, scripting.

While we still don’t know any details, the sequel has allegedly been filmed if you’re to believe test screening audiences who have been posting about it on socials since October 3rd.

An unconfirmed synopsis on IMDB reads:

“Following the events after the first one, Blaire is going through deep depression and is tormented by everyone for causing Laura’s death, a triggering event causes Blaire to think Laura is back.”

This suggests that Shelley Hennig may have returned, as well as Heather Sossaman.

In the first film, “While video chatting one night, six high school friends receive a Skype message from a classmate who killed herself exactly one year ago. At first, they think it’s a prank, but when the girl starts revealing the friends’ darkest secrets, they realize they are dealing with something from beyond this world, something that wants them dead.” Shelley Hennig, Moses Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz, Jacob Wysocki, Courtney Halverson and Heather Sossaman starred.

A sequel to The Gallows was also allegedly shot in secret, which we reported on last month.

HFN first reported this news.
