Bloody New Shots From Takashi Miike’s 100th Film, ‘Blade of the Immortal’

Magnet Releasing recently announced a November 3, 2017, release date for Blade of the Immortal, the highly-anticipated new title from legendary Japanese director Takashi Miike, which is his 100th film!

Based on Hiroaki Samura’s long-running manga of the same name, Blade of the Immortal follows an immortal warrior who is enlisted by a young girl to avenge her parents’ slaughter at the hand of a group of master swordsmen.

“Blade of the Immortal is a Samurai Action about an immortal warrior,” said Miike. “Love and tears splatter with arms, legs and heads that are chopped and splattered. I hope the audience will be prepared for this and enjoy the film.”

Takuya Kimura, one of Japan’s biggest stars (Hero, Howl’s Moving Castle), plays the lead alongside newcomer Hana Sugisaki. Sôta Fukushi and Ebizô Ichikawa (13 Assassins) round out the cast with veterans Min Tanaka and Tsutomu Yamazaki.

I’m so happy to hear this news I could piss my pants in glee…this man could turn a movie about a pencil into a work of art…..and to hear Miike of all directors is doing this movie about this comic is toooooo damn cool

It’s going to be THE one good live adaptation of a manga since Miike’s behind it. 13 Assassins and Hara-Kiri are among my favorite. Yakuza Apocalypse was decent, but belongs in his category of numerous weird films.

What about Rurouni Kenshin? I thought the first movie of the trilogy was pretty good. The others seemed to try to pack too much into them, though. Fight choreography suffered in the big scenes.

Rorouni Kenshin once again worked way better as an anime IMHO.

Well of course it worked better, but it wasn’t a bad adaptation.

Love the manga and Miike’s movies, so gonna give it a chance… didn’t watched the anime, seemed to be lacking somehow.

I really hope this doesn’t suck.
