The ‘Winchester’ Trailer Builds 500 Rooms of Horror!

Published

on

Lionsgate and CBS Films’ Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built stars Academy Award winner Helen Mirren as firearm heiress Sarah Winchester who spent decades using her fortune to expand upon her home, and no one is quite sure why. The most common belief? She was cursed by spirits who demanded she never stop building.

Bloody Disgusting now has the first trailer that looks like a lot of fun, boasting 500 rooms brimming with demons, souls, entities, shadows, apparitions, poltergeists, wraiths and, of course, ghosts. That’s quite a promise the studio is building. It’s got a 13 Ghosts vibe with maybe a little of The Woman in Black and Abbatoir.

Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination, Jigsaw), “On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price (Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters…”

In theaters February 2, 2018, Winchester also stars Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook, and Angus Sampson.

Amblin Movie ‘Thursday Murder Club’ Sounds Like ‘Knives Out’ Meets ‘Cocoon’

Chris Columbus (Gremlins – writer, Home Alone – director) is headed back into the director’s chair for Thursday Murder Club, Amblin’s upcoming feature film adaptation of the same-titled novel written by Richard Osman. Variety first reported the news this morning.

It’s not a horror movie, mind you, but rather a star-studded murder-mystery. Think Rian Johnson’s Knives Out… only this particular murder-mystery is set in a retirement community!

Variety details, “The book, released in 2020, tells the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun. When a shady property developer is found dead, the four find themselves in the middle of their first live crime.”

Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley are “being eyed” to lead the cast!

Richard Osman’s 2020 novel was such a hit that it launched a franchise. Follow-up The Man Who Died Twice followed in 2021, with The Bullet That Missed coming along in 2022. And then there was The Last Devil to Die in 2023, with a fifth book in the series expected in 2025.
