Ali Abbasi, who also directed the TIFF selection Shelley, has already completed his next, Border, which will be for sale at the forthcoming AFM in Santa Monica.
The Swedish production is based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, writer of Let the Right One In. Abbasi penned the screenplay with Isabella Eklöf.
In it, “When a border guard with a sixth sense for identifying smugglers encounters the first person she cannot prove is guilty, she is forced to confront terrifying revelations about herself and humankind.”
Border is described as “troll mythology” meets a darkly romantic horror story.
