‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ Director Will Bring Us ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’!

Guillermo del Toro was at one point attached to direct a feature film adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for CBS Films, but those plans have since changed as Deadline reports tonight that André Øvredal, the Norwegian filmmaker behind must-watch films Trollhunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe, is now at the helm!

“The thriller follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”

Production will begin next Summer on the film, based on Alvin Schwartz’s three-book series, released between 1981 and 1991.

Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman (The LEGO Movie) wrote the script.

Øvredal will produce with Sean Daniel, Jason Brown and Elizabeth Grave.

  • Creepshow

I finally checked out Autopsy of JD about two weeks ago. And was actually surprised at how good it was. The only thing that I was wondering was, why did the father go back to the morgue? No big deal, still a great movie.

    • Saturn

I agree – it was much better than I’d anticipated.
One of the best horror movies I’ve seen his year in fact.

      • Necro

Absolutely agree! The creep factor is very good in this!

Creepshow, i loved JANE DOE. that movie and THE INVITATION were my top favorite horror movies of 2016.

  • Baron Von Marlon

This guy and Craig Zahler are two upcoming directors I’m keeping my eye on.

  • Heck yeah!!!!

  • YASSS! That book is amazing!!
(As i said before, don’t care about failed del Toro’s project of the past)

    • Necro

Yep Fede soon we’re going to know every choice Del Toro was supposed to make besides projects he was attached to.

  • Necro

Anything else that Del Toro was SUPPOSED to do? Was there maybe a thesis he was supposed to write in college that he decided not to, or maybe a car he was supposed to buy but decided to go with an SUV instead.

    • J Jett

      LOL! 🙂

  • Michael Dippolito

Ehhh. Jane Doe started out so promising but fell very short and bland, in my opinion.

  • J Jett

JANE DOE was one of my top faves of 2016 and i loved TROLLHUNTER, so this new film is definitely a “must see” film!

  • ScaryLarryV

I’m pretty sure Del Toro was gonna bang my friends girlfriend a few years ago but never did. The guy isn’t a strong closer that’s for sure.

  • Lady of the Profaned Capital

I’m excited for this movie, but if it features a CGI Harold on the screen, I might shit myself.
