‘Goosebumps’ Sequel is Coming in 2018 and a Director Has Been Hired

We’re not yet sure about the approach Sony is taking to next year’s sequel to Goosebumps, as we’ve heard they’re working two different scripts at this time – one that would bring Jack Black back as R.L. Stine, and another that reportedly would not feature Black’s return.

Rob Lieber (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) was recently tapped to pen the latter script.

Tracking Board reports today that Ari Sandel (The Duff) is now attached to direct the tentatively titled Goosebumps 2, which still has a September 21, 2018 release date.

Sony is looking to cut down the budget for a sequel,” the site also notes.

A previous iteration of the project was to center on the iconic HorrorLand.

I guess they’re waiting for Jumanji’s boxoffice numbers….if it’s succesful (which I highly doubt) they’ll bring jack black on board, if not then a different story can be told without Black

Strangely enough, all my friends who were able to get early screenings in on Jumanji only had positive things to say.

Really enjoyed the first one, I find it odd that they’re looking to cut the budget of the sequel. Don’t get me wrong, I think a smaller budget might make for a better movie, I just think it’s not typical sequel behavior to go smaller!

No Jack Black? Screw the guy that wrote that script.

studio directive, is obvious, one if Black wants to come back, and the other is for if he does not, which is likely given the lesser budget

They need to go full on horror with this series like The Gate.

lol even less budget? the movie was pretty bad

my kids and i really enjoy both the old goosebumps TV show and the new movie! goofy and fun, and just a little bit scary(for them, obvs) it’s a great mix! looking forward to a sequel

i freaking LOVE the movie. this “cutting down the budget” thing for the sequel is troubling though.

I actually enjoyed this movie for the most part. I did not like Jack Black’s casting though i would rather see maybe someone like a John Cusack type in the role. The budget decrease could be a plus imo as the movie had way to much CGI reminding me of the Scooby Doo movies.
