Bill Moseley Wants to Play Freddy Krueger So Now There’s a Petition

Published

on

At this time, there are no Nightmare on Elm Street-related projects actually in the works, but that hasn’t stopped a group of hardcore fans from rallying together to ensure that Bill Moseley, one of the greatest living horror icons and one hell of an actor, is cast in the role of Freddy Krueger. Wait. Say what? How did all of this get started, anyway?!

As it turns out, the petition was created (by fan Nick Younker) in the wake of Moseley himself noting on Twitter that he’d love to play Freddy Krueger, if offered the role.

I would love to,” Moseley responded, when Younker asked him if he’d be up for it. Moseley was then asked if he’d give his blessing for fans to campaign for such a thing to become reality, and Moseley replied with an approving “Fuck yeah!

Moseley subsequently added, “BTW, what about Robert Englund?! Hear he’s awesome!

In Younker’s petition, which has received over 100 signatures at the time of writing this, he writes “We are a collective of social media users on Twitter that have weighed in on the casting of the new Fred Krueger, and we feel that only Bill Moseley can portray this character to our expectations.”

Of course, studios don’t tend to consult fan petitions when it comes to making major decisions, nor should they, but it’s fun to see fans rallying behind the “Moseley as Krueger” campaign. And, if nothing more, it’s fun to know that Moseley would be up for it.

Thoughts?

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
