Remember R.I.P.D.? Released in 2013, the comic book adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges was a box office failure for Universal Pictures, but it looks like Universal is ready to head back into the Rest in Peace Department nearly ten years later. A mysterious new project titled R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, to our surprise, has just made its presence known.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, an apparent sequel to 2013’s supernatural action comedy, is listed on this week’s ratings bulletin from the MPA, the film receiving a “PG-13” rating.

From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, R.I.P.D. 2 is rated “PG-13” for “sequences of violence, language, disturbing images, and some crude/sexual references.”

This is the first we’ve even heard of this project. Stay tuned for more.

Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headlined the first supernatural action-adventure as two cops dispatched by the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.) to protect and serve the living from increasingly destructive spirits hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.

“When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork to restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.”

insidious 5 trailer

In the wake of last year’s box office hit Insidious: The Red Door, Sony has announced tonight that the next installment in the Insidious franchise has been dated for 2025 release.

You can expect the untitled next movie in theaters August 29, 2025.

Deadline notes in their report tonight that this particular project is NOT the previously announced spinoff movie Thread: An Insidious Tale, which doesn’t yet have a release date.

Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani will star in Thread: An Insidious Tale.

Director James Wan’s original Insidious movie in 2011 was followed by Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), Insidious: The Last Key (2018), and last year’s Insidious: The Red Door, which became the highest grossing movie in the entire franchise thus far.

Needless to say, this franchise still has a lot of life left in it. Stay tuned for more.
