Supergroup Palms has unveiled the album artwork for their debut album as well as the titles of the six tracks featured on the album. The 47-minute album will be released June 25th via Ipecac Records. An iTunes pre-order will net people an automatic download of their song “Tropics”.

Palms features Deftones singer Chino Moreno as well as ex-ISIS members Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris, and Clifford Meyer.

August Burns Red Releases New Single “Fault Line”

Metalcore band August Burns Red has released a lyric video for “Fault Line”, the first single from their upcoming album Rescue & Restore, which comes out June 25th. The album is the followup to 2011′s Leveler (unless you want to count 2012′s Christmas album August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill). The album can be pre-ordered in many different packages here.

Guitarist JB Brubaker comments, “’Fault Line’ is a staple sounding ABR song. It’s a good place to start when whetting people’s appetites for Rescue & Restore.”

Brubaker discusses the album, stating, “Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz,” explains Brubaker. “We’ve done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same. People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest Lady Gaga song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that.”

Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe Writes Passionate Plea To Metal Fans

Randy Blythe, vocalist for Lamb Of God, has posted a lengthy essay on his Tumblr entitled “Be Carefully”. It is a heartbreaking, emotional piece in which Randy explains many of his feelings after he was exonerated of the death of 19-year old Daniel Nosek, who died after suffering injuries at a 2010 LoG concert in Prague. It is also a post in which Blythe makes impassioned pleas to the metal community, both the fans as well as the promoters/club owners.

Beautifully written and thoughtfully crafted, it is not an easy piece to read. I’ll fully admit that I had tears in my eyes when Blythe describes sitting down with Nosek’s mother and holding her hands while they both wept.

Orphaned Land Release First Single From ‘All Is One’

Israeli metal band Orphaned Land have released a lyric video for “Our Own Messiah”, the band’s first single from their upcoming album All Is One (out June 25th via Century Media Records). The album was mixed by Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Devin Townsend Project, James LaBrie) and was recorded in Israeli, Turkey, and Sweden. Over 40 musicians were used on All Is One, including 25 choir singers and eight classical violin, viola and cello players from Turkey.

Norwegian prog-metal band Leprous have released an official music video for “The Cloak”, their new single from their upcoming album Coal (out May 28th via InsideOut Music). THe video was directed by David Solbjørg of Twitchy Films.

The band states, “While we’re anxiously waiting to release ‘Coal’ to the public, another taste of it is coming your way. A while back we announced a video was in the making, and now everything is ready for your eyes and ears. ‘The Cloak’ is our second music video, and we’re extremely excited to finally release it! Enjoy!”

Coal is the followup to 2011′s brilliant Bilateral (review), which was an Album Of The Year for me. I highly recommend giving these guys a serious shot if you haven’t listened to them much. READ MORE

Baroness Return To The Road: Announce New Members

Last year, Southern sludge rockers Baroness went through a terrifying and injurious bus accident that saw each band member hurt. Since then bassist Matt Maggioni and drummer Allen Blickle have left the band, which singer/guitarist John Baizley says was part of an amicable split.

But now the boys are back and are ready to hit the road. In a candid video statement, Baizely and guitarist Pete Adams speak about their focus and their eagerness to embark on a tour. They also announce that they are welcoming bassist Nick Jost and drummer Sebastian Thomson to the group.

Adams states, “It’s hard to find the words to express how excited we are to announce this tour. Seven months ago, who knew when it would be or even if we could get back on the road. But here we are, picking right back up where we left off. A heartfelt thanks to everyone’s unconditional love and support for us through, let’s hope, the hardest time this band will ever see. We told you we’d be back so let’s do this thing!”

As I’ve said before, I love it when you lovely, amazing readers send me things to check out. I get to see and hear things that would’ve normally slipped entirely under my radar.

Such is the case with Robotmonkeyarm and their three-part EP that is heavily influenced by the works of Goblin (Suspiria) and Ennio Morricone (The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, John Carpenter’s The Thing). Utilizing and blending surf rock with rich instrumentation, the EP sounds like a wonderful throwback to the great horror movies of the 70′s and early 80′s.

The group has also mentioned via their Facebook page that they are working on a fourth entry into the EP series, so we’ll keep an ear open to make sure we let you know when it comes out. Meanwhile, listen to the trilogy below! READ MORE

“Let’s Get Weird” is a series written by Jon Dobyns of electronic group Twitch The Ripper. In it, he reviews and shares his thoughts on some of the lesser known horror classics. Make sure to pick up their latest album Colorblind.

Call it an obsession, call it an infatuation, or frankly just call it a magnetic pull – but I am drawn to the vibe of the giallo era. “Vibe,” there isn’t a better word to describe it. From the hyper-stylized shots, to the ludicrous stories and chilling synth lines in the scores, gialli are more than just period pieces. In a great giallo everything lines up to create that perfect sense of mystery, murder, misery and, yes, vibe! However, there’s a charm to giallo that modern thrillers simply don’t capture. Perhaps the era has all to do with it. From beautiful countrysides to city grime, from haunting scores to ultraviolent Hitchcock-esque stories on acid that are peppered with all the flirtatious steaminess one can muster up. But of course not every film in the genre is solid gold. I’ll admit that some of the later pictures in this mold come across as vapid or dull. And the abundance of poor knockoffs and copycats just dilutes the pool of these clever, thought-out shockers. So for all the non-believers, I present proof you can strike gold in a silver mine. Director Sergio Martino gave us a debut that makes my top-five list of gialli, The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh. READ MORE

[Cool] Daft Punk’s “Aerodynamic” Played On Eight Floppy Drives

I remember using five (yes, five) floppy disks to install Doom II onto my bitchin’ 386 processor desktop that stuttered and hung when I tried to run The 7th Guest. Seriously, that machine was the pinnacle of technology when I was 7 years old. No kid on the block was cooler than myself (well, in my own head, at least).

But now what can you do with floppy drives? Well, YouTube user MrSolidSnake745 has found a use. He has taken several floppy drives and covered Daft Punk‘s “Aerodynamic”, which comes from their 2001 Discovery album. It’s pretty awesome and definitely a better use of the machinery than what they’re meant for (what can you even save on a floppy disk these days?). Check it out below!

Singer Oderus Urungus states, “Once again, we blow the horn of war and set into motion the gears that grind us towards the greatest GWAR B-Q yet. We will be shoving a wealth of GWAR products down your throat… not only our new GWAR B-Q sauce, but our very own beer, Impaled Ale. Eat and drink yourself into a diabetic stupor, then puke it all up in the slam pit! It’s gonna fucking rule!”

Never-Before-Heard Deftones Album ‘Eros’ To Be Released

In an interview with Artisan News at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony, Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno gave an update about Eros, the unreleased album that features the last works of bassist Chi Cheng before the terrible auto accident that left him in a coma for over four years before his passing this year in April. The video interview can be seen below.

When asked about the possibility of the album being released, Moreno stated, “It will. I think more so now probably than ever. I actually went back and listened to some of it recently and… you know, I don’t know when or… but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that in the last few years to think about.”

“‘My Gods’ is an agnostic prayer as heard by a demon named Elim, otherwise known as the ‘lord of attrition.’ The video depicts his relationship to three characters and their subsequent deterioration of mind, body, and soul.

We filmed much of the video completely guerilla style in an abandoned house in the San Fernando Valley. A passing hiker spotted us and called 911 to report a possible rape/murder. So halfway through our first day, we were approached by three policemen with guns drawn. The sheriff quickly realized what we were doing and then explained that his children were filmmakers. Amazingly, he allowed us to keep shooting as long as we remained unseen by the public.

Swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity have released an official video for “Uniformity”, the newest single from their upcoming album Construct. The video was directed by the prolific Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Hammerfall). You can watch the video below.
