So by now, unless you’ve been living under a rock (or just don’t listen to rock/metal), you’ve heard of The Big Four tour. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth , and Anthrax, all on the same stage: It’s really enough to make any metal fan soil their skivvies. Already having performed several shows in Europe with Heaven and Hell, Mastodon, and Behemoth (depending on the show you were at), many in the United States have been wondering if this incredible event would be reaching our shores at any point in the near future. Well, Lars Ulrich has released a statement (with thanks to antimusic.com) that tells fans what to expect and when! Check it out after the jump!
Direct from Lars Ulrich, “The vibe on this thing [the ‘Big Four’ tour] is so big, we’d be stupid to ignore it,” Ulrich tells Classic Rock magazine. “You know on your iPhone, you can move the weather maps up and down? Well, the ‘Big Four’ is quickly moving up to the top in terms of potential occurrences for the next couple of years.”
“We started [touring] in May 2008, so we’ve got to go and lie down pretty soon!” he said. “We’ve got three runs out in Australia, Japan and New Zealand in the Fall, then we’re going to take a little bit of a breather because at that point we will have been two-and-a-half years on the road.” He adds, “So I would champion trying to do this [the ‘Big Four’ tour] in 2011 or 2012, obviously in England and the United States . It’s just a matter of logistics. I don’t think there’s anybody involved who considers there’s a sell-by date on this.”
Here’s a comment from Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (courtesty of metalunderground.com) with a little tidbit that might astound many of you: “Droogies! So now that the Big Four dates have come and gone, I feel it is time to check-in, say, “Hello” and tell you what has been going on in my world. First off, when we left San Marcos and Mustaine Music Studios aka ‘Vic’s Garage,’ we had no idea what to expect, other than the fact that we wanted to make a point; we wanted to make the other bands feel comfortable, we wanted the fans to all leave this momentous occasion feeling completely satiated, we wanted the guys in Metallica to know that we could be depended on to pull our share…
“I don’t know if we delivered for everyone, but for the tens of thousands of people each night, and ultimately hundreds of thousands of fans over the entire run of the Big Four festivals (affectionately dubbed ‘Sonisphere’), it seemed to me that the fans were finally able to put aside the silly stuff that the press has kept on life support for so many, many years. We did several round-table interviews with a member from each camp of the Big Four, and one thing that was a constant and that we all agreed on was that the press was the responsible parties for keeping the feuds alive.
“You heard it straight from our mouths; we are all at peace with one another, and we all are friends. End of story – or in other words, several shit magazines will now have to learn how to write real interviews, reviews, and features, instead of causing so much turmoil with us four, all in the spirit of selling their publications.”
In any case, when this tour reaches the States, you can rest assured knowing that Bloody-Disgusting will be there to bring you all the goodies!
