20,000 Left 4 Dead Fans Unlock the Dead Air Campaign Real Fast
Earlier this week Valve told its fans that if 20,000 of them beat the still a work-in-progress Cold Stream campaign by Sunday then the reward would be early access to the slightly tweaked Dead Air level early. Valve isn’t known for being “early” with anything, they’re students of the “it’s done when it’s done” school of thought, and that’s one of the reasons all their games kick so much ass. While 20,000 might at first seem like a big number, you should consider Steam’s user base that’s somewhere in the 30 million range. 20,000 is no big deal, and that was proven when Valve’s fans managed the feat after just four hours.
Valve’s true to their word, so if you own a copy of Left 4 Dead for the PC you can expect Dead Air to hit no later than July 22nd. If you only have the 360 version than this next bit of news might interest you more: Valve’s “working on and testing a new version of the ‘Dark Carnival’ finale and some gameplay changes for finales in general.” New finales that offer a little more than running from a billion infected and a couple of Tanks? Count me in!

The new trailer for her feature directorial debut, The Watchers, gives viewers a taste of what’s in store. AreYouWatching.com has launched with even more clues.
Visit the site to join the mysterious creatures that lurk in the Irish forest as you observe a shelter. From the time the sun sets at 7:30 PM until it rises at 5:55 AM, four strangers — played by Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere — can be seen trapped inside.
You’ll find several interactive items. Click on the gramophone to set the mood with some spooky music. Tap on the birdcage to hear an ominous message from the parrot inside: “I’m going out, try not to die.” Press on the TV to watch clips from a fake reality show called Lair of Love. And if you tap on the window during the daytime … they’ll tap back.
There are also Easter eggs hidden at specific times. We’ve discovered three: a disorienting shot of Fanning’s character’s car at 5:52 PM, a closer view of the captives at 11:11 PM, and a glimpse of monitors at 12:46 AM. Let us know if you find any more in the comments…
