Clive Barker Responds to ‘Meat Train’ Massacre

Published

on

Back on August 1st, Lionsgate dumped the Clive Barker adaptation of The Midnight Meat Train in only 100 (discount) theaters. It created an uproar (especially here on BD) and is still the subject of strict scrutiny. This weekend MTV posted an interview they ran with Barker, who punches out his thoughts on the events of this past month. Read on for the skinny.
There’s room for everything,” Barker tells MTV. “You don’t have to sh- on somebody else’s work to advance your own material.” Barker is referring to Lionsgate president Joe Drake, a man who has been the center of blame from many perspectives.

This is all about ego, and though I mourn the fact that `Midnight Meat Train’ was never given its chance in theaters, it’s a beautifully stylish, scary movie, and it isn’t going anywhere. People will find it, and whether they find it in midnight shows or they find it on DVD, they’ll find it, and in the end the Joe Drakes of the world will disappear.

In the interview with MTV News he calls Drake “small-minded” and a “nobody.” Ouch.

We’ll bring you our own report soon enough, once we find some time to pull all the material together.

In the latest BOOKS OF BLOOD adaptation, the story features a commuter’s run-in with a New York subway serial killer and a horde of subterranean cannibals.
