Horror In Your House Takes a Third ‘Wrong Turn’

Published

on

I don’t know whether to be disappointed or excited. After two monster editions of Horror In Your House, this week’s DVD/Blu-ray release list is pretty lame. While there’s nothing stand out other than Sony Home Entertainment’s William Castle Collection (rocking the awesome Spine Tingler! documentary) and Eric Red’s pretty great 100 Feet, it’s a sure way to save a few bucks for this weekend Halloween parties coming up. Check out the full list below.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE: Sony

The deadliest assassin to stand the test of time. From a Producer of Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon comes Blood: The Last Vampire, based on the cult hit anime series. Demons have infested Earth. And only one warrior stands between the dark and the light: Saya, a half-human, half-vampire samurai who preys on those who feast on human blood. Joining forces with the shadowy society known as the Council, Saya is dispatched to an American military base, where an intense series of swordfights leads her to the deadliest vampire of all. And now after 400 years, Saya’s greatest hunt is about to begin.

TEX SAYS: The live-action installment of the classic Anime feature hops onto DVD this week. Fans of undead Asian schoolgirls slicing and dicing should get a kick outta this one.

BLOOD TIES: Triumphant Entertainment

A group of graduate students from Hollow’s Pointe University write a thesis paper giving their theory of the unsolved campus murders of 20 years ago. A conspiracy is uncovered and the students are now in danger. When the students begin to dig deeper, what they find shocks everyone. The conspiracy goes far beyond what anyone had anticipated and one by one the students disappear as they try to stay one step ahead of those who must keep them silent.

FREAKY FARON: Anthem

When she was 11, young Faron Hallowell was sent away to a mental institution for shooting and nearly killing a local weatherman–a secret mission she claimed was assigned to her by alien beings. Now, five years later, released and rehabilitated, all she wants is a normal life. But when the events of her dark past return to haunt her, she’ll have to use her uncanny abilities once again to protect her hometown and uncover the secret of her own identity.

ISLE OF THE SNAKE PEOPLE: Cheezy Flicks Entertainment

A small remote island is the home for voodoo rites, death cults and an evil priest named Damballah. Local law officials turn a blind eye to their evil ways until Captain Labesch arrives from the mainland. Determined to crack down on the island’s lawlessness and clean up the ineffectual, hard-drinking police force, Labeasch appeals to plantation tycoon Carl Van Molder for assistance. Van Molder owns nearly half the island and has spent his life studying parapsychology and secret powers of the mind. Meanwhile, beautiful native girls are being transformed into zombies! A sinister snake dancer named Kalea impels them to attack and devour anyone who gets too close to their unholy rituals.

LAST OF THE LIVING: Echo Bridge

After a deadly virus has turned humankind into flesh-eating zombies, slackers Morgan, Ash, and Johnny spend their days lounging in their skivvies, drifting from one vacant house to another. When the three stumble upon a hot girl who may have a cure for the outbreak, the three decide it’s finally time to step up to the plate and save the world – and the girl.

MOONCHILD: Thunder Island

Exorcism, astrology, alchemy, witchcraft, sorcery and the occult vie with each other to battle the supernatural powers of evil when a “Moonchild” is reincarnated for the seventh time and forced to repeat his short life every quarter of a century. The young man is caught up in a seemingly endless nightmare struggle to escape the assorted demons, satanic soldiers, maddened monks, crazed sorcerers, bizarre monsters and a lusting female ghost along the terrifying path to his original existence and a final exorcism. John Carradine stars as the macabre storyteller of these chilling and horrific tales.

100 FEET: The Asylum

After a woman kills her abusive husband in self-defense, she is condemned to house arrest… only to discover that the house is possessed by the enraged and violent spirit of her dead husband.

P: Tartan

While growing up in rural Thailand, a young and beautiful orphan girl is taught the mysterious art of dark magic by her grandmother. When her grandmother falls sick, young Dau travels to Bangkok looking for work in order to earn enough money for medicine. She lands a job as an exotic dancer at a go-go club. Hesitant at first and ridiculed by the other dancers, circumstances force Dau to become an adult before her time and ultimately becomes the most popular and eerily seductive dancer at the club. Jealousies ensue and as her magic gets darker, the young girl gradually loses control as something abhorrently evil and wicked takes over.

RAVAGE THE SCREAM QUEEN: Grimoire
Two men find a DVD-R and discover that it is a snuff film. As they debate whether or not the footage is authentic, one of them becomes inspired to make his own movie. They have an endless supply of victims – desperate actresses who will answer any ad, no matter how suspicious.

SATAN’S SCHOOL FOR GIRLS: Cheezy Flicks

A young woman investigates her sister’s suicide by posing as a student at an all-girls school. She quickly learns that Fallbridge College for Girls is a front for a satanic cult. “Satan’s School for Girls” is a haven for nasty necromancers and pernicious pupils called “The Five,” a group who loves to play with the Devil!

UNINVITED: Cheezy Flicks Entertainment

In a Florida research lab, a seemingly harmless orange cat has developed the ability to transform itself into a hideous mutant creature. A group of gangsters and criminals unknowingly bring the furry monster aboard a yacht in the Caribbean. The heinous feline begins terrorizing the passengers and a desperate struggle for survival leads to a terrifying climax. Will George Kennedy or anyone survive the attacks from the “Uninvited”?

THE WHISTLER: R Squared Films

When a no-good band of thugs enters a small town to unleash their terror, nothing could prepare them for the wrath a gentle giant inflicts, defending the honor of his one true love to the end of his life, and beyond. After their grisly murders, a lumberjack and his lover return a year later to enact deadly vengeance on those responsible. Soon, the members of a notorious inner city gang begin to die violently by the hands of an axe-wielding vigilante known as The Whistler. These brutal deaths land detective Kyle Rico and forensics investigator Jacy Hall hot on The Whistler’s trail. But nothing is as it seems and the closer that they get to the truth, secrets are revealed that lead to an ultimate death struggle of ghostly proportions.

WILLIAM CASTLE COLLECTION: Sony (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

Iconic horror director William Castle created a simple, but winning formula for his films: a little comedy, a lot of scares, a preposterous gimmick, and a clear sense that fright films should be fun. This even meant Castle would, like Hitchcock, appear in his trailers and even the movies themselves. Though his career spanned 35 years and included everything from westerns to crime thrillers, he’ll always be remembered for his horror films from the late 50s to the mid-60s. And now Sony presents all eight of his Columbia features – three making their DVD debut, the rest newly-remastered – in one “spook-tac-ular” collection. And as a bonus, it includes the award-winning feature-length documentary, Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story.

TEX SAYS: The king of cheese cinema finally gets a box set of his own. Worth picking up for the phenomenal SPINE TINGLER documentary alone–a totally loving look at Castle from his pre-Hollywood days in the theater to his triumphant production of ROSEMARY’S BABY. This is a must see documentary for genre-philes.

WRONG TURN 3: LEFT FOR DEAD: Fox

The third course for a bloodthirsty family comes when a group of campers arrive, realizing only too late that ticks aren’t the only things that bite in these backwoods. But when some of the most vicious killers in the country escape into the woods from a bus transporting them to prison, Three Finger and his family may have met their match. Will justice be served on the convicted murderers or upon the mutant killers?

TEX SAYS: The third installment from the WT franchise arrives courtesy of SyFy Channel TV director Declan O’Brien and first-time screenwriter Connor James Delaney. Yes…some concern is completely justified!
