After last night’s 12 round bout between Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures and Paramount Pictures, director Kevin Greutert became a casualty of the studio war that started when Greutert was tapped to direct Paranormal Activity 2 and Paramount placed the film in the exact same release slot as Lionsgate/Twisted Pictures’ Saw VII 3D. We’re talking big ego and big money here. Lionsgate/Twisted got pissed and exercised an option that is forcing Greutert back for the seventh Saw instead of developing his skills in the paranormal world, probably in the off chance that Paramount wouldn’t be able to meet that October 22 date. Still, it put Greutert in an incredibly uncomfortable place that he doesn’t deserve to be in, especially since Lionsgate chose to tap David Hackl (Saw V) to bring Jigsaw into the world of 3D leaving Greutert in the dust. I mean, WTF? Seriously, WTF? Anyways, Greutert made an official statement that can be read beyond the break. Keep the conversation going, what do you guys think?
“I’m in the middle of something really terrible right now, as anyone who has come to this site probably knows. While I fight for justice in this, the important thing is to avoid giving in to hatred and anger, because these emotions are life killers.
Hopefully we will all arrive at an amicable solution. Thank you to everyone who is working with me on this.
