The Grammy Museum has teamed up with Revolver Magazine to open up an exhibit entitled ‘The History Of Heavy Metal’, which will feature stage artifacts and props, handwritten lyrics, and more. The purpose of the exhibit is to educate people on the origins of heavy metal, go through the various subgenres, and tackle the controversy that has surrounded the genre since it’s inception nearly five decades ago. The exhibit opens up April 11th, 2012, which coincides with the Revolver Golden Gods Awards Show. More information can be found here
Personally I see this as a step in the right direction. The Grammys have always had really shoddy options when it came to the Rock and Metal nominees. There are so many amazing albums that come out each year and it always ends up as a popularity contest. I’d prefer to see the Grammys as a center for being able to find new music from artists that might not get the normal amount of exposure that other artists are afforded.
