Quick Bites: Updates on ‘Dracula: Year Zero,’ ‘World War Z’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel’

There’s a bunch of non-news wasting space on various sites, so we thought we’d condense them into this once single post. First, Encore is reporting Universal Pictures has announced production of Alex Proyas’ Dracula: Year Zero, which is to be shot in Australia. Sam Worthington stars in the film that will depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war, repositioning him more as a vengeful hero than the monster seen in Bram Stoker’s classic novel. In addition, a supposed Paramount doc is making the rounds that state Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which follows the poor siblings (now bounty hunters) 15 years after that whole gingerbread house incident, is set to shoot this year. Casting is being discussed. Lastly, the studio loves Matt Carnahan’s World War Z draft, so it looks like Marc Forster could be directing pretty soon. Brad Pitt stars.
