It’s no secret that I dislike Kevin Smith, quite a bit actually, which is shocking considering how much I championed Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (my brother and myself were the only people in the theater opening day for Mallrats). It’s hard to ignore a director when he’s so openly vicious towards the people who support him, and it’s even more hilarious that he has the balls to suggest asking them to fund his movie. Anyways, the said movie is Red State, his political horror flick premiering January 23 at the Sundance Film Festival. While we’ve seen a handful of absolutely terrible one sheets, this morning Smith debuted the festival trailer that I believe looks pretty darn intense. My full disclosure of my feelings towards Smith should give some weight to my positive outlook on the film, thanks to a crafty trailer. What do you think of the footage?
Starring Kyle Gallner, Melissa Leo, Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Steven Root, Michael Parks, and John Goodman, the pic follows a group of misfits who encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme – in the form of a crazed preacher – in Middle America.
