‘Flatliners’ Revived as a Remake Instead of Series
Columbia Pictures is bringing Flatliners back to life. The studio is remaking the 1990 drama, which featured a slew of young rising stars including Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland and was directed by Joel Schumacher, and has tapped Source Code writer Ben Ripley to pen the screenplay, writes Heat Vision.
The 1990 movie, written by Peter Filardi, “centered on a group of medical students who bring subject themselves to near-death experiences in order to see if anything lies beyond the big sleep. The members of the group then are revisited by physical manifestations of childhood sins are not sure if what they are facing is real or hallucination.”
Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt were also in the movie.
Laurence Mark, a veteran producer whose recent credits include Julie & Julia and The Lookout, is producing the redo. Further Films, who produced the original, will also be involved. A TV series was once in the works.

‘Drop’ – Violett Beane Joins the Cast of Christopher Landon’s New Thriller
Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
