Get ready for the Halloween season with five new horror classics on Blu-ray!
Another round of MGM must-see fan favorites comes to Blu-ray September 13th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Five horror classics make this month’s new-to-Blu-ray releases some of the most exciting yet: Hannibal, Last House on the Left, Manhunter, Poltergeist II and RoboCop 2.
No specs included, and it’s unclear how good the transfers will be, but it’s better than nothing (I guess).
HANNIBAL SYNOPSIS: Anthony Hopkins is “perverse perfection” (Rolling Stone) in his return to the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the sophisticated killer who comes out of hiding to draw FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) into a high-stakes battle that will test her strength, cunning and loyalty.
LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT: UNRATED COLLECTOR’S EDITION SYNOPSIS: Before horror fans Saw the current wave of shockers featuring fiercely Hostel villains, Wes Craven delivered this “important genre landmark” (Science Fiction Horror and Fantasy Film Review) that’s thrilling, disturbing, action-packed and filled with unrelenting terror.
On their way to a rock concert, two teenagers (Sandra Cassel and Lucy Grantham) are kidnapped by a gang of escaped convicts. Although they put up the fight of their lives, the girls are drugged, tossed in a car trunk and driven into the woods by the savage, murderous gang… only to wake up to a horror they could not have imagined. Filled with shocks, twists, turns and action, this knuckle-whitening film “never lets us out from under almost unbearable dramatic tension.” (Roger Ebert)
MANHUNTER SYNOPSIS: Witness the birth of evil. This “stomach-tightening” (The Washington Post) thriller from writer/director Michael Mann (Heat, The Insider) first introduced the world to the cunning, unforgettable serial killer named Hannibal. Joan Allen and Stephen Lang costar in this “eerie, very intense” (New York), “dark locomotive of a film” (Los Angeles Times) that promises to “keep viewers riveted” (Time)! Former FBI profiler Will Graham (William Petersen, CSI) reluctantly returns to his old job to track a horrific serial killer known as the “Tooth Fairy.” But in order to get into the mind of this maniac, Graham must face another: Hannibal, the imprisoned psychiatrist whose own insanity almost cost Graham his life…and whose insights into the “Tooth Fairy” could prove as dangerous as the killer himself!
POLTERGEIST II SYNOPSIS: In this thrilling follow-up to the smash hit Poltergeist, the Freeling family (JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Heather O’Rourke) settles into a new home following the annihilation of their former residence by terrifying visitors from the netherworld. But the spirits of the dead are still hell-bent on luring the family’s clairvoyant daughter Carol Anne to “the other side.”
ROBOCOP 2 SYNOPSIS: Robocop returns to fight his toughest opponent yet: his replacement! Robocop 2 pits two unstoppable cyborgs against each other in a battle to the death that will leave only the strongest standing! Containing the latest in gadgetry and weaponry as well as the brain of the madman who designed the drug “Nuke,” this new cyborg isn’t just more sophisticated than his predecessor…he’s psychotic and out of control! It will take everything Robocop has to save Detroit – and himself – from total destruction.
