Robert Zemeckis No Longer Developing ‘Here There Be Monsters’

It was announced back in July that Brian Helgeland had been hired by Legendary Pictures to write Here There Be Monsters, a movie about Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones — except with sea monsters.

While Robert Zemeckis was never attached to direct, reports are now surfacing that Zemeckis will not be heading the ship.

Producer Todd Lieberman told SFX they are “talking about potential directors. Robert is not officially involved any more.

Lieberman also stated: “It could be a great, historical, epic, fun, sea monster movie – something I’ve never done before.

Helgeland, who won the Academy Award for 1997’s L.A. Confidential, also wrote the 2003 Mystic River, the 2010 Green Zone and Robin Hood.
