World War Z, Paramount Pictures’ epic zombie adaptation starring Brad Pitt that was originally scheduled to open December 21, 2012, has now been pushed to June 21, 2013.
This isn’t necessarily a bad sign. It’s probably just taking longer to finish the movie properly, and I’d rather a studio get it right than rush it. Plus, it’s not like you schedule something for June 21st if you don’t have confidence in it. It’s just not an Oscar movie, that’s all.
What it may be, as we previously reported, is a trilogy. Earlier in the year the LA Times reported that “[Director Marc] Forster and Paramount Pictures each view “World War Z” as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon’s Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.”
The story “revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.”
Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Bryan Cranston, and David Morse also star.
