FilmDistrict Breaks Haunted ‘Oculus’ Mirror

FilmDistrict (Insidious, Parker, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, and the forthcoming Evil Dead) has acquired Intrepid Pictures’ horror feature Oculus, to be directed by Mike Flanagan (Absentia) from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Howard.

Ten years ago a horrifying family incident left two young children orphans. Although authorities charged the brother with murder, his sister believed that the true culprit was a haunted antique mirror. Now completely rehabilitated and in his twenties, the brother is ready to move on but his sister is determined to prove that the haunted mirror was responsible for destroying their family.

Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans will produce and are fully financing the project and the company’s Anil Kurian will executive produce. International sales are being handled by Focus Features International at Cannes. Production is set for a late summer start.

Won’t stop commenting on any story about this movie – looking forward to it immensely ’cause the short version made a handful of years back is one of my favorite horror movies. Hopefully this measures up to that one or even improves on it.

I was kind of disappointed with Absentia, as it was too self-consciously subdued. Hoping Flanagan loosens up a little with this one.
