MPI Media Group (The Innkeepers, Stake Land) today announced it has acquired all North American rights to Sleep Tight, a psychological thriller that has drawn huge audiences and won numerous awards in Spain. Featuring “one of the most charismatic villains in the recent cinema” (Fotogramas), director Jaume Balaguero’s movie will be released theatrically in the fall of 2012 through MPI’s genre arm, Dark Sky Films. The theatrical release will be followed VOD and DVD availability.
Sleep Tight is a Filmax Entertainment and Castelao Pictures production, produced by Julio Fernandez. Written by Alberto Marini (6 Films to Keep You Awake), it is the latest film from the director of the Calista Flockhart horror movie Fragile.
Sleep Tight stars “Luis Tosar as Cesar, an apartment building doorman who keeps very close tabs on the residents’ private lives and whose only happiness comes from others’ misery. One building resident in particular, the cheery, happy-go-lucky Clara (Marta Etura), makes his skin crawl. He becomes determined to do whatever it takes to wipe the smile off her face.”
Tense and disturbing, Sleep Tight has been nominated for more than 20 awards in Spain and won six Gaudi Awards, including Best Director for Jaume Balaguero, Best Actor for Luis Tosar and Best Screenplay.
