Update: Lionsgate Plans On Remaking ‘Twilight.’ It’s True. They’ll Deny It. But It’s True.

Update: As quickly as I predicted, Summit has denied our report using the age-old “semantics card” that basically puts it all on the chest of creator Stephanie Meyer. “We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change,” said Summit Co-Chairman and now Lionsgate domestic movie czar Rob Friedman to a site that didn’t credit us, therefore you’ll have to guess who reported it. Said site clarifies: “What this statement means is simply that the studio will do whatever “Twilight Saga” author Stephenie Meyer wants. She has said in some interviews that she wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot — so an eventual remake isn’t out of the realm of possibility.” That’s because – mark my words – it’s going to happen.
November 21, 2008. That’s what, a little less than four years ago? Since then Summit Entertainment has released four Twilight adaptations, with the fifth and final arriving on November 16. By the five year anniversary, Lionsgate, who acquired Summit back in January for $412.5 million in cash and stock, will be in serious discussions regarding the future of the Stephenie Meyer vampire/werewolf franchise.

They’ll deny it, right here, right now. We’ll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it’s true.

In fact, they’re already discussing it internally. It will happen.

Twilight will return. It will never leave. It is eternal. Prepare to weep for another decade.

It is still undecided exactly what the future of the franchise will be, though. It could be a direct remake, considering the initial saga is so poorly made, but then again it could also be a spinoff or maybe even a one-off sequel. It could be anything to keep the green bills piling high. But expect a remake. Yes, quickly.

Lionsgate’s needs a fresh franchise to run alongside the Tyler Perry and Saw films that fueled them through the 00’s. Now that they have Summit, and The Hunger Games franchise, revising Twilight from another studio’s perspective could be just what the doctor ordered…

Talk back below.

Not sure if serious or just trolling.

    • EvanDickson

Not trolling, it’s real. Though expect them to deny it for a little while.

  • N3kr0

Even if it’s not true, and this is not April… i really believe it, they are ready (or doint it right now) the remake of The Raid, with what kind of martial arts (MMA?)and who’s the american hotie that will show his six pack (Taylor something, you know, the twilight kid).

But the think is, for what i’ve heard for what you just said
the movies are 10% of what the books are, so, it makes sense.
It will be a horrible franchise adaptation of a horrible book saga, to a horrible adaptation
of a horrible book saga… done right. More Money, and the RISE of new and old religious fanatics
    of twilight.

If anyone as babies right now, or have plans to… be warned, be prepare and educate your
infants, so they don’t fall to this new cultural drug. It’s here to stay…

  • I dont want to live on this planet anymore…..

  • FreddyKrueger13

I’m still curious as to their plans for the Saw franchises future, I am suprised something hasn’t already arisen for it though.

    Kill me.

  • djblack1313

even though i enjoy these movies as guilty pleasures this news makes me want to vomit.

  • sweet_machete

I actually read Twilight (before it was cool).. The story itself was pretty good, but the movie was fucking horrible and the casting was so bad. As much as I actually hate Twilight because of these stupid movies, I would actually like to see it done right. Emily Browning would be a good Bella.
I will probably get a lot of slack for this comment haha.

  • Well, you can’t go much worse than what is already there. if they change the plot, story and the characters just enough it could be decent.

  • VictorCrowley

I’m happy to say I have managed to avoid everything Twilight and literally know nothing about it. Looking forward to keeping it that way.

  • flesheater24

Oh god please no more sparkling assholes.

  • OriginalParahead

i bet casting would be tricky for this because of the massive stigma attached to it – would any actor worth their weight in gold actually be in it unless they SERIOUSLY needed the money? i guess they would if it had a great script. it wouldn’t be hard for the script to be better than the original film’s script but in order for it to actually be ‘good’ they would probably need to do some serious plot fiddling because of the fundamental flaws presented by the book (like the fact that it’s blatantly anti-feminist and aimed at pre-teens) so it’d have to be an adaptation in the truest sense of the word. Wonder if there are writers out there who could actually make it decent?

  • Joe-Banger

I never read the series and I tried watching the first film, it sucked so hard I turnred it off fast! The last person before me said anti-feminist in that paragraph so maybe Ill have to give the books a read after all. I will just ignore the future films as well as the current ones.

  • EvilHead1981

This IS the world we live in. After doing movies, now, it seems normal that as soon as those movies end, they start talking about remakes/reboots not long after. They are rebooting Spider-Man, their’s talks about rebooting Daredevil and Fantastic Four. They are rebooting Van Helsing. They REBOOTED Incredible Hulk. And while the worst case scenario is probably the best possiblitiy regarding a Twilight remake/reboot(yet more pandering to pre-teens with horrible love stories and pussy vamps), I COULD be behind if they totally rebooted/re-imagnined it as something, well, ballsy. Something that turns Stephanie Meyer’s original idea on it’s head. Ditching the sparkly daywalkers and going back to a more traditional “sunlight kills them” type. Maybe start with the Cullens being a vampire hunting vampire family, Bella being a sorta “Buffy-esque” teenage badass that joins the Cullens when whateverthehell the name of their town gets overrun by the super natural. Lots of blood, lots of gore, toned down love story, maybe even some comedic moments. Basically, a complete re-imagining of the original, which isn’t that far off from what reboots tend to do nowadays.

  • DeathSeeker180

This site also reported that Ghosthouse pictures will 100% be rebooting The Grudge last August and nothing happened.

    • EvanDickson

Takes a while for stuff to happen. Roy Lee is rebooting the Grudge and is hearing takes from writers. Movies take years to get off the ground in Hollywood sometimes.

  • PatrickxJonathan

I’d fuck Kristen Stewart and her emotionless soul.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

Must be a slow news day.

  • zaglewiz

LOL! Fuck it. Might as well being that everything else is getting remade.

  • GinnybB3

I loved the books, the movies were ok but let them go! Its possible to make a person hate it by constantly shoving it in their face. Was great to share an interest with my teenager but the teenager years are almost over and the fascination is gone. After Nov. 16th it should be over.

  • VampiresDontSparkle

Maybe there will be actual vampires in this remake, maybe Bella dies in the end realizing that beauty doesn’t always mean something good, and maybe, just maybe, Stephenie Meyer gets no say in this film.

  • guarino2002

    There is no god!!!

    • VampiresDontSparkle

No shit there’s no god, why else would Twilight exist!?

  • pulseofblood

I’ve heard rumors of a potential spinoff for a while, but I would like to see the films remade into a mini-series because so much is missing from the movies. I love the films. They are great for the audience they are presented to–of course, a majority of the internet disagrees. The movies lack a magical dreamy feel, and they do not focus on Edward and Bella’s relationship as much as they should have. Summit went the romance/action route instead of plain ol’ romance. The action in the story is important, but Summit never gave Edward and Bella a chance to fully develop their relationship. And as they developed their relationship in the books, so much is learned about the vampires. I wish the films would have touched on how great and evolutionary (despite the author’s religion) these vampires are. There are tons of backstories and myths that can be brought to a remake of this series. Thousands of years of vampire history can be told on screen. Lionsgate should consider doing a miniseries that focuses on the histories of the vampires. That way there would be hardly any upheaval about casting and it can shed some light onto why the characters are the way they are.

  • Vampire_Mistress

I actually LOVED the series (didn’t like the sparkling but really that only happens once in the first film and once in the second) The actors were PERFECT in my opinion and Kristen Stewart was a great Bella….she was exactly what she was like in the book. I would hate a re-make and I will not watch it!

  • Nosferatu-Killer

Considering my Hatred of the Original Franchise – the Novels, the Films, the Characters, Plot, ECT – I’ll avoid any Future installment like I have since 2010.
I just wish they’d made an actual Horror-Vampire flick again. With Garlic, Bloodsuckers, Bats and Dungeons. You know, the traditional Vampire conventions.

  • This is why the terrorist hate us!!!!

  • SOShaunessy

“…considering the initial saga is so poorly made…”

    As per the source material.

  • viking1983

seems mr disgusting is desperate for them to remake his favourite films then

  • I believe you. Even though you apparently don’t know that no one was burned at the stake in the Salem trials. (Hanged, mostly. One crushed to death or some shit. Anyhoo.)

  • undertaker78

If they remake the Twilight series and I have to hear about it for another decade I think I may stab someone in the eye. Not to sound like a debbie downer but this is horrible news and I hope this site doesn’t give this piece of crap any attention.

  • Evil_Nik

It’s only a matter of time before this does actually happen. It’s only been a few years, we can probably expect Twilight the remake & Harry Potter the remake to happen in 2026. To the powers that be if I’m not six feet under by then, please take me out if this happens!

  • Marty McFly

Why the fuck does a horror movie website report this shit? No one gives a flying fuck about them except little middle school girls. I hate these “movies” with a firey passion.

  • I guess I’m the odd ball here b/c I love The Twilight Saga… I wish she would also finish writing the book from Edward’s point of view too.

  • Merry Nightmares

I don’t understand this, Twilight was JUST made why in the hell would they want to reboot it? It was bad enough the first time. I never read the books, but watched the movie a while back to see what all the fuss was about… The acting was just so bad and cheesy. (We’re not talking yummy cheese pizza either). I couldn’t help myself but too laugh at some of the parts. Why the hell does the vampire sparkle and why the hell does this chick always have the same exact expression on her face in every scene?
