TV: Want To See How David Morrissey Looks As The Governor In “The Walking Dead”?

The third season of The Walking Dead has been shooting for about a month at this point and now we’ve got our first look at David Morrissey as “The Governor” courtesy of TV Guide. I’m actually not too familiar with the comics, so it’s not up to me to judge if this adds up to expectations.

Kirkman also told them that, “The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic. I think that he’s definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He’s definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down. I’m even more excited than ever because now I feel like we’re really getting to ‘the good stuff. Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!

The show, “tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

Head inside to take a look! And let us know – is this what you had in mind?

He looks nothing like The Governor does in the comics, so I guess it will come down to how well he acts the part.

He looks like a younger Harvey Keitel if anything.

  • Necronaut

Wrong. Not dirty and feral like the gov should be. I call fail early.

  • Taboo

Looks good to me :D.. I haven’t and neither plan on reading the comics

If you guys actually READ the comics and not just looked at the pretty pictures you’d know that The Governor started as a normal survivor before he became the big bad governor. His transformation probably took time as Shane’s character did. The only thing missing right now is the long hair and eye patch which will probably come with time.

Hey, I’ve read the comics, and I’ll continue to do so. Probably with comics being a completely different medium, they just pull if off better. I’ll keep watching the show because I love horror and love the comic. But I want the tv show to be better, that’s all. This photo (and hey, it’s just a photo) doesn’t do anything to get me pumped up. The Governor in the comic was one of the better written villains I can remember in a long time – it was an incredible ride. I think we all want that incredible ride. Hopefully they can pull it off…

From someone who hasn’t read the comics (don’t you spoil a damn thing!, I predict that, in season 3, Rick will become a major tool like Shane did, he will die or be killed, and a new character will come along to take the reign as leader of the pack.

I would hit it and not quit it…

Like PatrickxJonathan said, the image they’ve been floating around the internet (with the “KILL THEM ALL!” quote) with the eye patch, half arm, etc., to get people amped for the character probably won’t be realized on screen until the last third or quarter of the season, since that’s about when he gets the patch and everything like that in the comics. When we do see the Governor in his “enhanced” form/outfit, we’ll either see it in the show first or a leaked photo, because you know they’ll milk that sucker for all it’s worth.

i agree w/ PatrickxJonathan. plus for all we know this pic is a flashback type pic where “The Governor” wasn’t all scraggily and nasty looking (early on in the apocalypse). i’ve never seen David Morrissey in anything before but from what i hear he’s a very good actor.
