With an August 9, 2013 date already locked, MGM is moving quickly on its long-gestured RoboCop remake.
Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch, Limitless, The Girl, The Seven Psychopaths) has been offered the female lead in the Jose Padilha-directed reboot of the Paul Verhoeven-directed original, reports Deadline.
“The Killing”‘s Joel Kinnaman has been set to play the title character, a cop who, near death, is turned into an indestructible crime-fighting force, and then begins to remember his past life. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife, who thinks she is a widow. Samuel L. Jackson is also reportedly in talks to join the cast as well.
The original was about a cop who was near death and was drafted to become a powerful cyborg cop, until suppressed memories of his past life come back to haunt him. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.
