Director Matt Westrup is getting ready to make The Gate, a feature version of his short of the same name. Wayfare Entertainment will be financing and helping him develop the idea and the first step is finding a screenwriter who can tease it out to feature length.
Per Deadline, “Wayfare Entertainment has acquired the rights to produce and finance a feature-length version of the short thriller The Gate from its director Matt Westrup and producer Spencer Friend. Westrup will direct the feature version, while Friend will produce with Wayfare’s Browning and Sarah Shepard.”
You can check out the short right here. It’s pretty cool and the comparisons to Alive In Joburg (which begat District 9) seem apt.
