greendayunocoverscreencap

Green Day have released a short trailer promoting their upcoming album ¡Uno!, which will hit streets Sept. 25th, 2012. The album is the first in a trilogy, with the second album, ¡Dos!, coming out Nov. 13th, 2012 and the third album, ¡Tre!, coming out Jan. 15, 2013. The trailer also shows the album artwork for ¡Uno!. Pre-orders for the albums will be coming soon to GreenDay.com. You can watch the trailer below.

Listening to the music in the trailer, it’s not like any Green Day I’ve ever heard, although I will fully admit to not caring about or listening to their music for the past few albums. As a matter of fact, what I’m hearing is actually pretty catchy and has some cool vibes going. Maybe I’ll give this album a try. Maybe.

I was really into Warning, and American Idiot eventually won me over, but 21st Century Breakdown was the breaking point for me. It was like American Idiot’s ugly, hyperactive brother that you’d keep in your basement in a modified crib that’s now indestructible.

With them having a volley of 3 albums coming out in the next year or so, rather than reeling themselves in a little bit after the crapfest of 21CB, it just seems like they’re getting completely excessive. I do think it’s cool that they’re getting fully into being this larger-than-life rock presence/phenomenon as a concept – I actually don’t mind that they’ve abandoned their punk roots entirely to be a huge rock band with such grand ambitions and ideas – but who knows if it’ll add up to a good batch of tunes.

I wouldn’t say they’ve abandoned their punk roots, Billie Joe still runs Adeline Records, does Pinhead Gunpowder, they still play small surprise shows at clubs and they still do benefit shows for Gilman (even though they’ve been “86′d”). They just started playing more than just punk rock.

I will agree that 21st Century Breakdown is awful and this is coming from whose favorite band is Green Day. I’m hoping that these 3 albums don’t turn out like the KISS solo albums.
