MGM’s RoboCop is gearing up for production and has launched a new website for OmniCorp, the manufacturer in charge of supplying urban and military weapons. And right there on the front page is a pic of the new ED-209! There’s also some cool video that reminds me of the satirical commercials from the original 1987 film, even if it lacks their humorous bite.

Per OmniCorp, “For a half-century, these words have set the framework upon which OmniCorp has aimed to build a brighter world. We don’t do passive technology. At OmniCorp, our solutions generate a beacon of safety that we shine upon on the dangers of the day. No matter the obstacle – political, cultural, philosophical – we pursue our convictions around the globe to secure peace of mind at home. And when this requires bold new direction, we never allow doubt to shrink our duty. When your quality of life is in the balance, our leadership team will tip the scales. Our products have elevated your lives. Our people have inspired your future. Our passion will always be at your side.

Jose Padilha is directing the remake, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Laurie is joining quite the cast. Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) is the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates RoboCop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation. Samuel Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. Cornish has been offered the role of his wife who thinks she is a widow Hugh Laurie plays the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes RoboCop and ED-209.

RoboCop starts shooting soon and has a tentative release date of August 9, 2013. Head inside for a better look at ED-209!

Looks wicked. One thing is bothering me about this however. They still haven’t cast the role of Anne Lewis nor have they said there will be such a character in the film. Would be a little disappointing if there wasn’t.

    Looks terrible..

    Looks like a transformer…

That’s what I was saying haha

I was thinking that too, with all the shifting metal parts and it has no personality like the original ED-209. This movie is going to suck.

OmniCorp? Why change the name? OCP sounds way cooler than something as bland as omnicorp. But then again not linking these terrible designs to the classic ocp might be a good thing.

I can’t wait to see it fall down a set of stairs. Interested to see how Robocop turns out.

My God that thing doesn’t read well. If I hadn’t known what ED-209 looks like in the hands of a competent designer I would have been very confused as to what I was actually looking at. Also, menacing red eyes are menacing.

    Yes! I think?

This sounds absolutely terrible. The couldn’t have picked a movie that needed to be remade less, the original borders on perfect. Also: Am I the only one who is completely sick of Sam Jackson? He might be one of the worst actors in Hollywood.

Mandatory “Get these muthah trucking robots out of my god damn cops!” joke.

Can’t wait to see how they are going to sexy up robocop, he’ll probably be outfitted to look like a power ranger at this rate.

      *They couldn’t…

This definitely lacks the charm of the original machine.
