2010 HORROR MOVIE PREVIEW: PARAMOUNT PICTURES/DIMENSION FILMS

While horror is hotter than ever (thanks to Paramount’s Paranormal Activity), it’s a bit shocking how small this year’s (remember, it’s 2010 now!) horror release calendar is. It’s so small in fact that we had to combine Paramount Pictures/DreamWorks and Dimension Films 2010 Preview. You can check out the piece below and watch this spot for Warner Bros. Pictures and other random previews coming next week.

Based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, and directed by Oscar® winner Peter Jackson from a screenplay by Jackson & Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens, “The Lovely Bones” centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

Case 39 (Date TBD, Paramount)

“Case 39″ centers on an idealistic social worker (Zellweger) who saves an abused 10-year-old girl from her parents only to discover that things are not as they appear.

Area 51 (Date TBD, Paramount)

An alien horror film in the vein of Paranormal Activity.

DIMENSION FILMS

Piranha 3D (April 16)

Jaws… lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.

Halloween III 3D (Date TBD)

No details.

Scream IV (Date TBD)

The horror series that reignited the genre and grossed more than $500 Million worldwide is back! From Kevin Williamson, creator of the original SCREAM trilogy, the new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with a group of new stars, who can hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise.
