No major releases this week, but the big news belongs to the B-Movie (of the last decade?) Birdemic: Shock and Terror, which is *finally* available for home viewing. If you haven’t seen it, the films plays out exactly like you would expect a film made by a guy whose only asset seemed to be a never-ending supply of Geo-Cities like .GIF files of birds flapping their wings. I didn’t see anything else that caught my eye, outside of the latest Funimation effort, Alien vs. Ninja. It’s definitely a B-movie kinda week. Horror in Your House

ALIEN VS. NINJA (Blu-ray/DVD) – Funimation

The filmmakers behind Tokyo Gore Police and The Machine Girl join studio Sushi Typhoon to add this side-splitting horror-comedy to their line of entertaining cult cinema. In ancient Japan, the fiercest ninjas of the Iga clan face their toughest enemies – and they aren’t from this planet! A fiery mass crashes in the forest and soon horrifyingly savage creatures reduce the warriors to tasty snacks. But these jerks from outer space have bitten off more than they can chew. The ninjas’ swords and throwing stars may fail against the unearthly goons, but their skills don’t stop at sharp stuff. If you’re into Army of Darkness, you’ll be taking bets over who’ll win this over-the-top battle for survival!

A platoon of eagles & vultures attack the residence of a small town. Many people died. It’s not known what caused the flying menace to attack. Two people managed to fight back, but will they survive BIRDEMIC? Why did the eagles and vultures attack?

EMBODIMENT OF EVIL (Blu-ray/DVD) – Synapse Films

After forty years in prison, the evil gravedigger Josefel Zanatas a.k.a. Zé do Caixão is released by the lawyer Lucy Pontes in accordance with Brazilian Laws. He moves to the slums with his followers that worship him, and he seeks out the perfect woman to bear his children while haunted by the ghosts of his victims.

GHOST MONTH (Blu-ray/DVD) – Gaiam

In a bid to escape her nutso ex-boyfriend, Jacob, Alyssa (Marina Resa) takes a housekeeping gig at a remote Southwestern home. But her retreat coincides with the Chinese calendar’s seventh month, when dead souls allegedly raise hell among the mortal world. Skeptical Alyssa isn’t convinced by the warnings of her Chinese employers (Shirley To and Akiko Shima) until she starts having nightmarish visions in this creepy horror extravaganza.

THE GOATHERD – Virgil Films and Entertainment

Ilenka has come to visit Chile with Wil, her American boyfriend, and to meet up with Ana, her childhood friend. The three have decided to hike up to the El Morado Glacier, high up in the Chilean Andes. An accident, however, obliges them to turn back in search of help. On the way, they find the isolated cabin of a goatherd. What seems like the solution to all their problems becomes the beginning of the worst nightmare of their lives. The sociopathic goatherd kidnaps them and makes them victim to his macabre games.

PSYCH 9 (Blu-ray/DVD) – Lions Gate

A young woman with a troubled past takes a job at a recently closed hospital to collate the hardcopy patient records. Working alone in the building after dark, she experiences a series of unsettling events that lead her to believe the hospital may be connected to a number of recent murders in the area. To uncover the truth, she has to solve the mystery of her own disturbing past.
