What makes the Master of Suspense PSYCHO? People using their cell phones in movie theaters, of course. Word has gotten out that Anthony Hopkins’ Alfred Hitchcock has recorded a PSA to help put an end to the madness. Watch it here.
Opening in limited theaters November 23 is Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock, “a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville.” The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie Psycho.
The film stars Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, along with Helen Mirren as his wife. Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and James D’Arcy as Norman Bates. Tony Perkins, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D’Arcy, Michael Wincott, Richard Portnow and Kurtwood Smith also star.
The project is based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello that tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a “lowly” horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially, so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself. The movie, of course, became one of his biggest hits and one of the most influential of all time.
