Exclusive First Casting News For ‘Fright Night’; Story Details!!

Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has green lit production for Fright Night 2 and has cast Jaime Murray (pictured above; “Warehouse 13,” “Dexter”) in the lead role!

Murray, who played the exotic and seductive Lila Tournay in the second season of “Dexter,” can also be seen in Botched, The Deaths of Ian Stone and Devil’s Playground. She will play an Romanian vampire in the Eduardo Rodriguez-directed sequel.

In addition, it sounds as if “Evil” Ed and Peter Vincent will be returning for the direct-to-disc sequel. Here’s the official plot provided to Bloody: “When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend “Evil” Ed and ex-girlfriend AMY in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show “Fright Night,” to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who’s blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire.

Tom Holland directed the 1985 Fright Night that spawned a sequel in 1988 that reunited its main cast members Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale.

Filming begins in Bucharest, Romania next week.

Besides the location and the female vamp, the plot seems to be exactly like the original.

  • EvanDickson

At least Peter Vincent isn’t a magician?

    • WalkingDeadGuy

Ha. Once a magician, always a magician.

  • Kroork

I know right!! Like it isn’t even just the same plot new people. It’s the same plot with the same people !?!?! And evil Ed back from the dead only to be turned again!?!?! This seriously doesn’t make sense.

i fucking LOVE Jaime Murray! she makes a great villain. i’m in.

    • jchano123

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN WAREHOUSE 13 WITH HER????? she is so amazing in that show.

  • djblack1313

will this be DTV or a theatrical release?

    • EvanDickson

@djblack1313 probably DTV. Fox Home Entertainment. They do the Wrong Turn sequels etc….

  • lallenuk

    A call Bulls#@t on this.
Evil ed died in the first film, Gerri is almost identical to Jerry and the plot is almost the same as the first.
I somehow doubt the studio would agree to this.

    • EvanDickson

@lallenuk What do you mean? Dreamworks sold the rights to Fox. It’s a done deal. It’s happening.

  • EvilHead1981

It’s pretty apparent this is a reboot. It’s almost like they said, “Well, I think we can do the first reboot over again, but in a new way! Instead of going more towards the quasi-remake route we did with the first, let’s set it in a totally different place, let’s make Jerry a girl(Gerri), and make Charlie, Amy and Evil Ed studying abroard! See, it’s cool!”. It kinda reminds me a bit of Return of the Living Dead 2, which felt more like a parody of the first one, and even had some “similar characters” returning in new roles.

I can see their pitch for a Fright Night 3: “Let’s make it a blaxploitation flick! Charlie Brewster will be named Chuck B from Harlem! The vampire will be named Jheri Da-Man-dridge, and he’s a bloodsuckin pimp! It’s gonna be awesome!!”.

  • Slasher_Lover23

This sounds like a fricken remake if anything. It pisses me off when a sequel is released when really it’s a remake in disguise.

  • sqitso

Wait, I’m confused. Charlie killed Ed in the first remake, and Peter Vincent killed him in the first. Either way.. He was killed in the first one.. yes he did cameo the ending with “Ooh you’re so cool Brewster” indicating that he was still around.. but in any case at the very least he is still a vampire.

  • Red_QuEeN

I’m with you guys. I don’t get this at all. Is this a remake of the remake?

  • IBreatheHorror

How is this a sequel ? It just sounds like another remake. I was excited before this news. Guess thats what I get for putting faith in a Direct To DVD sequel.

  • Cozen

Just take it for what it’s worth…a la ‘Evil Dead 2’

…and I am in NO WAY comparing these franchises other than the retelling aspect. It CAN work, but probably not in this case. You know you’re watching anyway…I will if it streams on Netflix. Don’t get hung up on the sequel label…it’s just another vamp flick.

  • divisionbell

Aside from Evil Ed magically coming back from the dead, and the location, this sounds just like the original sequel. Guessing we’ll be dealing with Jerri’s sister or something. The original sequel was fun. After the limp remake I wouldn’t expect from much this.

  • TwistedCritic

I’m with EvilHead – this will definitely be yet another reboot disguised as a sequel; if the plot isn’t enough of an indication, consider the fact that they probably won’t have ANY of the actors from the 2011 remake back.
