TVOM reports that “The Wire” star Chad Coleman, pictured inside, has been cast in AMC’s The Walking Dead as Tyrese.

In the Image comics, Tyreese first appeared in the seventh issue, crossing paths with Rick and his group on the highway, with the former sheriff providing food for the former Atlanta Falcons linebacker and his family before joining the fold, explains THR.

The character eventually works his way up as Rick’s No. 2 following Shane’s death and becomes a love interest for both Carol and Michonne, pictured above.

In the highly anticipated new season, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 3 also introduces new characters, including the Governor (David Morrissey) and fan-favorite Michonne (Danai Gurira), along with her zombie pets.

Shit is about to get even real-er peoples. Tyrese is the fucking man in the comics, but who knows how they will play him out on the TV show as he is already past his intro time.

Cutty would make a great Tyrese. That is some really good casting!

I agree with rgold. I think he could be perfect in the role. Frankly, I stopped watching after Season 1. I’m a big fan of the comics, and the show did nothing for me. It wasn’t just that things were changed, it was that it seemed like everything that I liked about the original stories was changed. Then I heard from fans about how bad Season 2 was, and I was happy that I quit. However, if they bring Chad in as Tyrese, I may just bang out Season 2 quickly, to catch up, and then start watching it again. I hardly watch TV as it is. It would be nice if I could come back to this show. I really WANT to love it.

Getting through that second season is going to be a tedious task. Season three really does make it worth it tho.

@runcible: Season 2 actually wasn’t that bad, you should check it out :)

Damn…that’s some spot on casting right there! Kudos to The Walking Dead, even during the supposed dreadful second season that people still cry about, I found it always entertaining and better than most other crap on TV.

nothing more frustrating than watching someone use a sword completely wrong on tv, like nails on a chalk board…ugh “supposed dreadful second season” there is no “supposed” about it, the writing was awful, the bitching was awful the whole season was a waste of our time. they made 0 progress in the story elements or character development. there’s more holes in the second season writing than swiss cheese! very good 3rd season but it’s all generic. no real depth, just senseless gore..whatever.

this casting is pefect. it doesn’t hurt that Chad Coleman is fucking hot! :)
