Paramount has provided Collider with the second red band trailer for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which comes from Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola. The most interesting part of the trailer is the amount of gore, and the addition of the film not being rated yet. It looks like an R is on the horizon.

Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Thomas Mann, Derek Mears and Peter Stormare all star.

In theaters January 25, “After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.

Long synopsis: “Catching up with Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) 15 years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have evolved into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy as for an unknown reason harmful spells and curses do not work well against them.

The Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress (Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches’ gathering during the upcoming ‘Blood Moon’ night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own.

Everything inside me is screaming that this film is going to be terrible, but it looks so fun at the same time.

This movie looks like a giant pile of shit.

I really thought this would be awful but from what I am seeing I think it can be a good fun flick. Hopefully they stick with the R rated material and don’t edit out the F words for a pg13. (Which I fully expect to happen.)

I’m expecting bloody good fun, nothing more, nothing less. It’s a movie about Hansel & Gretel hunting witches, I’m not going into this film hoping for a smart screenplay and Oscar-esque performances.
