The New ‘Leprechaun’ Movie Will Be More Serious, Like We All Wanted.

leprechaun

Is it too late to get Christopher Nolan to direct this? Back in March is was officially announced that WWE would be producing Leprechaun: Origins, a remake of Leprechaun for Lionsgate, and that WWE wrestler Hornswoggle had been cast in the title role. It was also announced that Lionsgate and WWE Films had hired Harris Wilkinson to write the script.

Recently Crave spoke to WWE president Michael Luisi, who offered, “The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.

Luisi also conceded that the script is still in development. I’d like to note here that Wilkinson will have been given roughly 500% more time to write the new Leprechaun movie than Darabont was given to write the new Godzilla draft.

More serious and darker? Is that even possible? It’s a frickin Leprechaun, lol. I guess there will be no shoe-shinning and chasing pot of golds.

    • EvanDickson

      Exactly

  • HorrorManiac666

I don’t have any hope for this since WWE took over

  • purplek

Not ALL of us want it to be serious.

  • KeepDoubting

So Hornswoggle is still confirmed for the lead role? Nooo, my hopes of Big Show being cast has been shattered…

    • morrisseylikesburgers

I was really hoping for a Shockmaster cameo.

      • DeathValzer

My choice for the lead role would’ve been Damien Demento.

I want to say that taking out Warwick Davis will have the same effect as taking out Robert Englund from the Elm Street equation. But the truth is, the originals are too awful to make me give a shit.

I do feel sorry for Warwick Davis though if they actually do manage to pull off a creepy Leprechaun script, he deserved at least one. He was such a fucking trooper for putting up with that crap. Thinking of Giant Leprechaun stomping round that spaceship in number whatever still makes me smile a little.

i totally agree! warwick did deserve atleast one scary leprechaun film. “lep in the hood, come to do no good.”

      really ?

      • lovezoid

Haha that was some surreal shit. He was just looking so tired of it all by the last film

    • TwistedCritic

My thoughts exactly. I remember seeing the poster for the first Leprechaun in a video store when I was 8 or 9 and getting really creeped out. When I finally got to see it I was a little let down by how silly it was, and the sequels only got worse. He looked awesome in the role, but unfortunately it stopped there.

So is this going big and not straight to DVD? That would be weird to see. Does anyone really want this movie to happen? Im excited to see the return of Chucky but this.. I think the films are cheesy guilty pleasures at best. Its going to be hard to take this serious unless they come up with a really creepy concept. And even still come on.. this movie should have a little charm and humor.

  • tisbored

I kind of want this actually be scary, with sprinkles of slap stick like the first, probably won’t happen.

  • ill_mindedd

although i am a fan of the WWE, hornswoggle might not be a good idea for this. we’ll see how it goes though.

  • Aaron Emery

The original was played pretty serious, I mean yea the Leprachaun spoke in limericks but he’s a fucking leprechaun that’s what those little men do! I could really care less though, the way studio horror works today I don’t see a movie about a little green leprechaun killing people whilst rhyming making it to a wide release. This is the stuff DTV horror feeds on these days.

    • Aaron Emery

Disregard 30% of what I said, I forgot about the death-by-pogo stick. ~_~

  • Taboo

This could be good or bad lol

  • DeathValzer

Big fan of WWE (mainly CM Punk) but this will be disastrous. “Let’s take our Leprechaun character that kids enjoy and make him an evil killer”.

  • twisted

Syfy should run with this and make Leprechaun vs. Megaplatypus. This just sounds like crap.

  • undertaker78

I’m glad they’re going the darker route. As fun as Leprechaun can be, a menacingly evil Leprechaun, minus all the jokes will be a surprising welcome.
