‘Inside,’ ‘Martyrs’ Filmmakers Highlight ‘The Theatre Bizarre 2: Grand Guignol’ Directors!!

Bloody Disgusting has received exclusive first word that Olivier Abbou, Xavier Gens, Lucile Hadzihalilovic, Pascal Laugier, Talal Selhami, Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have all been tapped for The Theatre Bizarre 2: Grand Guignol, Severin’s sequel to their incredible colorful anthology that’s set to shoot later this year.

After the critical success of the first Theatre Bizarre anthology, it felt only natural to follow yp with another serving of more over-the-top, brutal, visionary, envelope-pushing tales. And this time, carte blanche was given to the creme de la creme of French directors, who were all very happy to take Grand Guignol back to its original birthplace.

The entirely French sequel features some of the countries best talents, including Frontier(s)‘ Xavier Gens (still in talks), Inside and Livide‘s Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, Territories‘ Olivier Abbou, Enter the Void writer Lucile Hadzihalilovic, and Martyrs director Pascal Laugier.

Any announcement of new work by Pascal Laugier is a reason to celebrate.

I’m a bit surprised to see such a great list of directors for a sequel to a film that was just okay at best.

Maybe this one will be a hell of lot better then the first. The first one fuckin sucked hugely. but with those list of amazing directors this one will surly be fuckin more disturbing and fucked up. I really loved THE ABC’S OF DEATH that movie was amazing some of the shorts were decent but for every decent one there was like 6 amazing ones.

I’m a bit surprised that I seem to be the only one who is sick of hearing about french horror as if they weren’t just as creatively bankrupt as everyone else.

Everyone loves to gush over Inside and Martyrs, but these directors are hardly wunderkind. Pascal Laugier’s follow up to Martyrs, The Tall Man, finds its sole redeeming feature in the fact that “The Tall Man” is also the name for the villain of the Phantasm series. That reminiscence of better movies past is the high point of this lamentable, flaccid film. Bustillo and Maury’s follow up to Inside hit the floor like a wet corpse, and has maintained that steady (lack of) momentum since its release. And well, Xavier Gens also directed Hitman. Yes, the video game movie.

Based on their bodies of work, I have little to no faith in the futures of these filmmakers.

Those involved are one thing. The sales art alone is driving me nuts! I would drool, lick and kiss all over it!
