‘The Raid 2′ Starts Mammoth 100+ Day Shoot!

In some rather great news, director Gareth Evans (The Raid, S-VHS) has commenced shooting The Raid 2 (which will bear the subtitle Berandal in some foreign markets)! Any of you guys who saw the first one know full well that it warrants inclusion on this site because of it’s carnage and gore factor. Also? It’s an awesome movie. PT Merantau Films and XYZ Films announced that the film has started shooting in Jakarta, Indonesia and is scheduled to shoot for over 100 DAYS!

That’s a super long shooting schedule, which means we can expect that they won’t skimp on the choreography, blocking or stunts this time around either. Iko Uwais returns in the lead.

Picking up right where the first film ends, ‘The Raid 2′ follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Head inside for a photo gallery from the shoot!

I usually don’t care for martial arts films but G.D. I fucking loved THE RAID!! Very excited for this!

I LOVE martial arts films and The Raid is one of the best since IP Man. Sign me the fuck up.

Is IP MAN anything like THE RAID? I supervise a video store (I don’t have to pay to take out movies) and have considered watching it.

No, not on the craziness. But still good as well. Actually, no, not alike. My favorite scene in ‘The Raid’ is the hallway scene where the one tenant gets tore up and then his head slammed into the tile wall breaking the tiles on his fall down… Just sick, can’t wait for this second one.

I sincerely hope they can recapture the simple magic that absolutely made ‘The Raid’ what it was. It wasn’t a complex movie, it was very simple. Just don’t ‘overcomplicate it’ with needless bullshit, keep the action fast, brutal and furious and a semblance of a plot in there and we’ll be ecstatic.

Day one purchase for me. I loved The Raid – and like others have said its up there with IP Man as one of my favorite martial arts movies.

How can I still haven’t watched this movie?? I need to fast!! Since The Raid has its own sequel, it’s fair to say Dread should get one too. What is the studio waiting for?!

  • Kwonkicker

One of the best martial arts films of the past decade easily. Looking forward to this.
