Concept Art Sneaks Peaks Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’

Magazine Total Film has shred a pair of concept art from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters July 12 from Warner Bros. Pictures.

The first puts the overwhelming scale of the Jaegers into perspective, as a Russian collosus stands guard, dominating the skyline. The second features a freaky Skull Temple that’s fused with its derelict urban surroundings, says the site. You can see those pieces by Doug Williams below.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

  • I want this movie to come out already! I hate it when we have to wait a whole year just to see a film. It’s one of the main reasons why I am looking forward to the Summer movie season. C’mon, Kikuchi Rinko and GdT? Screams EPIC to me.

I don’t doubt that this movie will be great (like the comment above also says, I hate to have to wait almost a year for a movie after seeing some images), but is it just me, or those giant robots look a lot like the ones from Evangelion?? Well, at least, in some parts…
