‘Marvel Of The Dead’ From George A. Romero!

Way back in October we got the scoop that zombie king George Romero was working on a secret undead project for Marvel. It seems they are finally starting to promote the book, as the teaser image below was sent out yesterday.

They sent out no official details on the book so it is all still speculation, but as far as we know, it does not involve the regular cast of heroes, and it’s not another “Marvel Zombies” title.

i think Romero seems like a great, sweet, lovable guy but IMO he hasn’t made a good movie/zombie movie since DAY OF THE DEAD. maybe comics from him will be good or at least better than his movie making track record.

I think he did a couple good ones since “Day of the Dead.” “Bruiser” comes to mind, though not a zombie flick, it’s a good one. “Dark Half” was good too, also not a zombie flick (and written by him AND Stephen King). And I also liked “Land of the Dead,” but definitely not his best work.

DJ, while I think Day is his finest Dead flick, I actually liked Land. After that, they just were George masturbating over the same societal BS.

    • djblack1313

NixEclips, i should have mentioned that i DO enjoy LAND as well. my bad. ๐Ÿ™‚

I enjoy Land, right up until it breaks Romeros own rules about zombies… I’m a little anal about that *doh*. The fliptop zombie in the car. Its head is only attached by skin, no vertebra etc. Yet the body works… *hmmmm* BUT however, that apparently was not Romeros fault, that was due to the movie being ‘designed by committee’. Other than that I thoroughly enjoy Land of the Dead.

I do however recommend reading the script, I got to just before Land came out, it’s a riproaring read!

awesome. I will buy 5 first issues and pray in a few years they are as worth as much as the walking dead #1’s are worth. welcome to comic books george!

  • Joe-Banger

LOL! I thought as well as many others that Day of the dead sucked! So did land of the dead except the ending was ok. djblack, lets make a zombie film of our own! We’ll probably argue and fight over creative control and end up in court over who owns the rights to the films because of what direction they are going in! Thats what happened to George R. and his writing partners! LOL! Ask Joe Bob Briggs!

    • djblack1313

      Joe, LOL. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • NixEclips

Joe, are you speaking of Russo? Watch the things that he made, or better yet, read his terrible novels.

  • ThunderDragoon

Yeah, Day of the Dead was terrible. I actually enjoyed some of his later movies, unlike most people here. This project seems interesting. Curious to see what it’s all about.

  • Ravinus

Hmm…I didn’t know George still enjoyed making movies.

  • DeadManZombieFan

why do so many people hate day of the dead so much? the gore fx alone are a good enough reason to watch it and make the movie enjoyable. captain rhodes is freaking awesome as well. best bad guy ever.

  • En_Noir

‘Day’ was decent, but after ‘Dawn’ it pails in comparison. Land of the dead had it’s moments but was just a ‘whatever’ movie in the end. Diary and Survival were just awful.. Romero has some good ideas and I applaud him for sticking through with his vision. I love the fact that he uses his films as social commentary all though, i feel like it’s a little too in your face with his newer works. I’ll definitely will end up reading this, hopefully they get some good artists on this project, It definitely has some really great potential to be a strong project.

I will still give anything by George a shot after seeing what became of the Marvel Zombie franchise.

I appreciate what Romero has brought to the zombie genre but I am staying away from anything with his name tagged attached. Other than Night of the Living Dead and Creepshow, anything Romero has directed or produced has been mediocre, underwhelming or downright awful.
