There’s more editorial troubles from DC Comics this week as Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool reports that Joshua Hale Fialkov has already called the quits on both of the Green Lantern books he was set to be writing, “Green Lantern Corps” and “Red Lanterns”. They have also confirmed that Andy Diggle has walked away from “Action Comics”.
It appears that both cases involve editorial changes to the directions that these writers wanted to go, despite the fact that they were already approved. Apparently he was going to kill off John Stewart. I don’t want to point fingers, but this is the kind of stuff readers notice about a publisher, and it does not help their image. It’s a shame because when I spoke with Fialkov at ECCC, he seemed excited to be working in the Green Lantern Universe.
Fialkov said,“There were editorial decisions about the direction of the book that conflicted with the story I was hired to tell, and I felt that it was better to let DC tell their story the way they want. I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’ll miss working with the entire Green Lantern team.This was not an easy decision to make emotionally or financially, but, I’m sure it was the right decision for both me, and for the Green Lantern books. The outpouring of support, your kind words and well wishes means so much to me and my family.”
