Another ‘Pacific Rim’ Jaeger Makes Me Feel Like We’re About To See ‘Transformers’

Yesterday we had a look at the Russian Jaeger (ie giant man controlled robot) “Cherno Alpha from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and today it’s a “character” poster for the Chinese Jaeger “Crimson Typhoon.” Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke all star.

In theaters July 12, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Is it me or are we entering Transformers-land here? There’s a series of giant robot posters, which doesn’t get me excited. I want to know more about the monsters…I hope they deliver in spades!

No…it’s just you. The Jaegers are the heroes of the movie, so obviously they will get star treatment. Besides, they look more like the robots seen in Real Steel than Transformers. I personally am loving these robot character posters…

I think their overall structure is more reminiscent of the original Transformers(not the Michael Bay ones). Original ones LOOKED like robots(big bulky frames), while the Michael Bay ones were designed to easily transform into whatever they do(and result, a lot of them looked like pieces of scrap metal welded together).

I really hope I can avoid seeing any monsters until I watch this. I want to be like ‘Whoa, what the fuck is THAT?’ as if I’m an unsuspecting character in the movie. It’s a true measure of how effective and scary they are.

All I needed to hear to be sold on this was the first thing I heard – ‘Guillermo del Toro. Robots. Monsters.’

Ohhhh MrDisgusting how it pains me in the heart to hear you say that,,, awful,, word, Transformers (Throwing up.) Lol, but yeah the monsters are what I want to. Those trailers for this always get me going.

i have to agree w/ Mr.D. i really want to be excited for this movie but it’s not doing it for me. i’m sure the movie will be fun/good but as of now nothing.

You know you will be surprised djblack 🙂 Del Toro has not a single misfire under his belt in my humble opinion. Given that he had creative freedom in the project, this ensures that the film will be awesomeeeeeeeeeee!

        dooomas10, absolutely!
