Captured New Look At ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

Say what you will about Lionsgate/Summit’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but it’s basically a PG-13 version of Battle Royale. It should definitely be covered here on Bloody. It’s way more genre than Twilight ever was, and even more violent.

Yesterday we showed the Everdeen sisters, while a new image displays Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth).

In theaters November 22, “The sequel begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone, Donald Sutherland and Josh Hutcherson all star. Head inside for the image.

No matter what you say or how much you say it. Most, myself included believe this has no place on the site. It is not ‘genre’ as you say.

That said I enjoyed The Hunger Games and eagerly await Catching Fire.

I really liked the first film and enjoyed the books. I definitely think there is some horror/sci-fi elements in this series, therefore, I like that this site covers them. A good horror site should have something for all its readers within the horror and sci-fi world (Rise of the planet of the apes, Frankenweenie, Super 8, Chronicle, Hunger Games, Disctict 9, Pacific Rim etc.)

    • djblack1313

WalkingDeadGuy, as usual, i agree w/ you! :)

i very much appreciate that this site covers movies like this. if this movie were say a straight up comedy or a film that didn’t have any fantasy/sci-fi/horror/etc elements in it then a could see people questioning the site covering said film.

i’m looking forward to this 2nd entry. i’ve never read the books but from what i’ve been told about them, i’m most looking forward to the 3rd film. when the poor class of people rise up against the “1 percent”…that’s what i can’t wait to see in this franchise. :)

        Thanks djblack1313 :-)

  • Ultrazilla

Haven’t read the books, but I REALLY enjoyed the first movie. Looking forward to the next one, and glad it’s being covered some on here. People who say it’s “not genre” apparently find nothing horrific about the idea of children and young adults being forced to kill each other…

    • StevenHarvey1990

Of course there is something ‘horrific’ within the premise. It’s not a Horror. End of. If we applied your logic we’d have The Lion King being covered.

I like variation. There are different sub-genres within Horror, enough to provide plenty of material for the site.

I even sent a polite email suggesting something I’d like to see covered, which actually is Horror focused. Yet not even a response. Then to come find things like this being posted is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Like I said. The Hunger Games is not a Horror film. Neither is Prometheus, nor Pacific Rim et al. Bloodydisgusting.com “The best in world Horr– Cinema”

It’s as simple as this…if you don’t like the topic, then don’t click on the link bringing you into the article. This is not YOUR website, they are free to post what they want. I don’t find much of the music topics to be horror related, but I don’t go into their threads and bitch about it either…I simply don’t click on what I’m not interested in. Something several of you need to learn as these “this isn’t horror!” posts are redundant and tedious.
        “End of.”

          Ultrazilla, WELL SAID!

  • Nothing333

It’s all about the clicks folks. Nothing more.

Good god. I am a looong time fan of The Hunger Games books and he movie is just completle horse shit. THIS IS TWILIGHT! THEY HAVE TAKEN A BOOK THAT HAS ONE AUDIENCE AND MARKETED TO A DIFFERENT AUDIENCE COMPLETELY SHITTING ON THE ORIGINAL FAN BASE AND THEN PEOPLE LIKE YOU DON’T HAVE THE CIRCLE JERK SHIT FEST ON IT AND GIVE IT IT’S MUCH DESERVED RAZZIES (LIKE LITERALLY THG DESERVES EVERY RAZZIE POSSIBLE) IS BECAUSE OH IT INVOLVES KILLING AND OH JENNIFER LAWRENCE IS JUST SOOOOOO AMAZING AND PERFECT FOR THE ROLE! (SHE ISN’T AND HER PERFORMANCE SUCKS) AND THE MOVIES TAKE A SHIT ON THE ENTIRE POLITICAL MESSAGE BEHIND THE FRANCHISE AS WELL AS ALL OF THE SOCIAL COMMENTARIES IT IS SUPPOSED TO CONTAIN, THEY’VE FUCK AROUND THE CONTINUITY, CASTED TERRIBLY, ADDED BASICALLY 0 CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, REMOVED VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTERS FOR THE STORY AND ESTABLISHING THE TOTALITARIAN DYSTOPIA THEY LIVE IN, THE FILM BASICALLY GIVES A BACK SEAT TO ANY OF THE WORLD BUILDING AND FAVOURS IT’S OWN MATERIAL OVER THE SOURCE AND IT IS FOCUSING MORE ON THE LOVE TRIANGLE ASPECTS FOR THE WONDERFUL TWILIGHT AUDICANCE OF TWEEN AGE GIRLS IT’S PICKED UP BUT YOU PEOPLE THAT I WOULD HOPE TO GOD WOULD HAVE SOME SENSE OF TASTE BUT NO BECAUSE OOOH I THOUGHT IT WAS PG 13 BATTLE ROYALE (ALSO SHOWS THE LACK OF ANY KNOWLEGE ON THE FILM)

THE FACT THAT PEOPLE WHO HAVEN’T READ THE BOOKS ARE SUPPORTING THIS ABOMINATION OF AN ADAPTION IS WORSE THAN ME SAYING I HAVEN’T SEEN THE ORIGINAL FRIDAY THE 13TH BUT THE NEW ONE IS JUST SO FANTASTIC WITH FAR MORE LIKEABLE CHARACTERS AND EVERYTHING < BULLSHIT AND I HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK IF I HAVEN'T SEEN THE ORIGINAL.

AND ADAPTION SHOULD NOT BE MADE FOR PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T READ THE BOOKS OR CARE UNTIL IT'S BEING ADVERTIZED TO THEM.

THE MOVIES ARE A COMPLETE SHAME AND MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH A YOUNGER AUDIENCE ABOUT THE HORRORS OF GOVERNMENTS LIKE NORTH KOREA AND SYRIA BUT NO INSTEAD THEY FOCUS ON THE LOVE TRIANGLE AND DON'T EVEN LET IT DEVELOP LIKE THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN KATNISS AND PEETA (THERE IS 0 IN THE FILM) AND THE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES NONE OF THEM COME THROUGH IT'S JUST A COMPLETE WRECK WHAT WE GOT WAS GARRY ROSS JIZZING ON A FILM REEL AND SHOWING TO US, THE FILM REEKS OF GARY ROSS'S SELF MASTURBATION IT MAKES ME SICK.

ARTISTICALLY THE MOVIE LACKS ON ALL LEVELS
TECHNICALLY THE MOVIE LACKS ON ALL LEVELS
INTELLECTUALLY THE MOVIE LACKS ON ALL LEVELS
ROMANTICALLY IT'S JUST SHALLOW AND LACKS ON LEVELS
THE ACTION SEQUENCES LOOK LIKE THEY CAME OUT OF GOOSEBUMPS AND THE SPECIAL EFFECTS HAVE TO BE THE WORST ON FILM TO BE RELEASE THEATRICALLY IN THE LAST DECADE!
THE WHOLE THING IS JUST A FUCKING LAUGH
THE MOVIE SHOULD BE 14A OR WHATEVER THE EQUIVALENT OF THAT IS IN THE SATES THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE UNDER 14 WOULD READ THE BOOKS SO THERE IS NO REASON THEY SHOULD NEED TO SEE THE SHITTY WATERED DOWN SHALLOW ASS HALF ASSED MOVIE.
THEY PROBABLY SPENT MORE ON THE ADVERTIZING CAMPAIGN THAN THEY DID ON ACTUAL BUDGET OF THE FILM A MERE 80 MILLION IS A SHAME FOR WHAT THEY WOULD NEED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS RIGHT JUST SHOWS HOW PASSIONATE THEY ARE ABOUT IT.

I'LL WAIT FOR THE TELEVISION REBOOT THAT WILL GET MADE IN 5 YEARS THAT EVEY ONE WILL PROBABLY HATE BECAUSE IT IS ACTUALLY DONE WELL.

(i’m going to post in all caps like manwich)…..MANWICH, CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!!! CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!! CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!! CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(there is that dramatic enough? lol. i was going to write a 12 paragraph comment like manwich but lost interest since THIS IS JUST A FUCKING MOVIE!!! IT’S NOT YOUR WHOLE LIFE…..IS IT? I THINK IT IS YOUR WHOLE LIKE GOING BY THE WAY YOU’RE BLOWING A GASKET!!! lol).

anywho….manwich, have a pleasant day and please go back on your anti-psych meds. :)

    • WalkingDeadGuy

I just realized that I didn’t hit “reply”, so as obvious as it is, I still wanted to point out that my comment below is a reply to @manwich3000

    • egaltt23

I didn’t even come close to reading your post ’cause I have a life, but you obviously aren’t that big of a fan of the books if you think they fucked up the movie. That is all.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

Calm down dude, it’s okay. There’s no need to insult others because they enjoyed it. Now I’ll admit that I didn’t read your entire post as you’re very long-winded…I actually did read the books and thought they did a pretty good job adapting it for the big screen. Sure they changed a few things, but if you want to fit all that material in just 2 hours it must be done. The second and third book focus more on the corrupt government, therefore I think it wasn’t a bad decision to not show us more of the capital since we’ll eventually get there with the sequels. Remember, this is a trilogy so there is still more story to tell.

Oh and a Razzie? are you serious? Lol. The movie has an 85% on rotten tomatoes. I doubt that the people behind those positive reviews are tweens…And before you ask, no I am not a tween either, I am 27.

  • undertaker78

Count me in as one that tried and gave Hunger Games a chance and absolutely hated it. It isn’t horror and never will be. You can call it an Action/Adventure with a minimal Sci-Fi element but that’s about it.

  • egaltt23

Thank you for covering it Mr. D! Catching Fire was an awesome book and I can’t wait for the movie. I’m a huge fan of THG books and love what they did with the first movie. If people don’t like you writing about it, who cares. All they have to do is scroll past it. It’s not that difficult.
